PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Conor Brophy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Izzy Beast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brophy comes to the cage accompanied by The Unicorns - I was Born (a Unicorn). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor Brophy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Izzy Beast!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Brophy.
Beast does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Beast connects with an inside leg kick.
Beast tests Brophy's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Brophy closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Beast quickly recovers to half guard.

Brophy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Beast has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Beast is trying to maintain the position but Brophy is very close to passing his half guard.
Beast wants to improve his position but Brophy is controlling well.

Brophy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Beast is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Brophy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Beast sees it coming and defends easily.
Brophy tries to pass to full mount but Beast defends it.
Brophy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Beast does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Beast wants to get back to full guard.

Brophy is working for a kimura but Beast is defending it quite comfortably.
Beast keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Let's hope that Beast has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Beast is looking to control Brophy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Beast avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Brophy rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Brophy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Brophy has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Beast finds it's way round the side to connect with Brophy's head.
Beast throws a leg kick but Brophy moved away.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Beast, right into the meat.
Beast lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Brophy tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Beast defends well and Brophy ends up having to push Beast into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Beast lands with a hook. Brophy tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Brophy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Brophy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Beast pinned against the cage. Beast gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conor Brophy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A clash of legs there as Brophy blocks the low kick.
Brophy throws a looping overhand right but Beast ducks down to avoid it.
Beast swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Beast lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Beast misses with a two punch combination.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Brophy drives through and clinches with Beast against the cage.
Brophy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Beast breaks the clinch.
Beast tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Brophy is able to avoid easily.
Beast throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Beast misses with a body kick.
Brophy misses with a straight right.
Beast digs a good body shot into Brophy's ribs.
Beast lands a head kick!
Brophy misses with a hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Izzy Beast dominated that round.
That's time! Brophy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Brophy fails to land the takedown.
Beast throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Beast pivots, looking for a leg kick but Brophy is out of range and Beast settles back down.
Brophy attempts a counter takedown but Beast avoids it well and moves away.
Brophy misses with an uppercut. Beast saw that one coming.
A little jabbing left from Beast on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Brophy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Beast smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Brophy closes the distance and clinches.
Brophy lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Beast backwards.
A body shot lands from Beast.
The referee calls for Beast to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Come on Beast - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Beast gets through Brophy's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Brophy fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Beast throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Beast can't find room to land a body shot as Brophy controls the action.
Beast throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Brophy jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Beast walks away with a smile on his face. Brophy gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Beast lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Brophy or not.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Beast takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Brophy throws a punch but it's blocked by Beast.
Beast works on Brophy's body with a couple of short punches.

Brophy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Beast is aware though and is defending well.

Brophy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Beast controls the pace.

Beast's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Beast.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
My spies in Humboldt Park Elite Gym inform me that Beast has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Beast throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Beast has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

and Beast counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Brophy thinking.
Beast stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Izzy Beast showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Brophy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Beast fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Brophy has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Brophy throws a jab when Beast was well out of range.
Brophy takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Brophy shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Beast as he avoids it easily.
Brophy darts in looking for a takedown but Beast gets double underhooks and turns Brophy into the cage.

Beast cracks Brophy with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Brophy closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Beast holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Beast can do anything to dispel that myth.

Beast is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Brophy's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Brophy's back!
I really don't envy Brophy right now.
Beast has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Brophy's body.
Brophy rolls, trying to escape but Beast keeps control of the position.
Brophy is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Beast.
Beast has the hooks in. Brophy is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Beast slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Brophy turns into Beast and is now in his guard.
Beast wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Beast is trying to control Brophy's posture but Brophy avoids it.
Conor Brophy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

I've got Beast winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
