PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Napoleon Randolph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bear King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Napoleon Randolph!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bear King!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

King clinches with his opponent.
Randolph is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but King is keeping busy.
King tries to pull guard but Randolph forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Randolph creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

King decides to pull guard.
Randolph sitting in guard, not really doing much.
King is looking to stand up but Randolph isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Randolph lands a couple of decent looking shots.
King trying to control the position.
Randolph has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

King trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
King has control of Randolph's left arm, preventing Randolph from doing any damage.
Randolph makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

King instigates a clinch.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A head punch blocked on the inside by King.

Randolph breaks from the clinch.
Randolph wants to clinch up but King keeps it at a distance.
Randolph moves in looking to clinch but King pushes him off.
Randolph tries to clinch up
and King counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Randolph thinking.
Randolph leaves King with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
King keeps the fight on the outside.

Randolph tries to keep at a distance but King has taken the fight into the clinch.

Randolph escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Randolph counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Napoleon Randolph has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bear King.

Randolph clinches up against the cage.

King breaks from the clinch.
King shoots in but Randolph avoids the takedown attempt easily.

King gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Randolph escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
King stuffs the takedown attempt from Randolph. Randolph gets slowly back to his feet.
King fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Randolph tries to clinch but King is having none of it.
King shoots in for a takedown but Randolph shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Randolph tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Randolph fails with an attempt to clinch.

King instigates a clinch.
Randolph is trying to force a seperation but King has the dominant position.
Randolph is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Randolph tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Randolph has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by King after a bit of a struggle.
Randolph lands a good knee to the midsection. King won't want to take too many of those.

King tries to score a body lock takedown but Randolph shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Randolph tries to land a knee to the head but King blocks with his arms.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
King has Randolph pressed against the cage, preventing Randolph from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Randolph tries to pull guard but King forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bear King will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



King takes the fight into the clinch.
King is trying to drag Randolph to the mat but Randolph just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Randolph dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

King breaks the clinch.
Randolph wants to clinch but King slips to the side
and King counters with a three punch combo that has Randolph backing up. Randolph nods at King to acknowledge the strikes.
Randolph doesn't manage to clinch there - King circles away.
Bear King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
King fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King closes the distance and clinches up with Randolph, looking for a takedown. King pushes Randolph against the cage but Randolph circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Napoleon Randolph has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bear King.

Randolph shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. King manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

King had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Randolph defends it easily.

King is continuing to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Randolph scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Randolph with a flurry of punches that miss.
Randolph postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

King is looking for a triangle here but Randolph uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Randolph with the ground and pound but King regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Randolph throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
King tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Randolph manages to move to mount!
King is wriggling around trying to escape.
King tries to hold on but Randolph pushes him away.

Randolph sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
King is looking to get to half guard.
Randolph really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Randolph thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
King manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Randolph sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. King defending well though.
King is trying to stand back up but Randolph is controlling him

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Randolph throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Randolph wants to clinch.

Randolph closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

King has one foot on Randolph's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
King pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Randolph was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Bear King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

King misses with a head kick.
Randolph tries to clinch up but King circles away and keeps his distance.
Bear King seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Randolph uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by King.

King closes the distance and clinches.
King landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Randolph is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
King stalling against the cage.
King blocking some punches.
Randolph tries to circle away but King has him pinned against the cage.
King is struggling to control the position.
King gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Napoleon Randolph has been cut.

King breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

King moves into the clinch successfully.
Randolph wants to get back to striking at distance but King won't allow it.
Randolph is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Randolph drags the fight down to the ground.
King tries to free his leg and advance position but Randolph is retaining full guard.
Randolph can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as King controls the pace.

King is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
King advances position into side control!
King controls the position.
Randolph is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

King decides to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Randolph instigates a clinch.
King lands an elbow just above Randolph 's eye.

King manages to break the clinch.
Randolph wants to clinch up but King keeps it at a distance.

King gets a clinch.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

King moves into range and clinches up with Randolph.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as King takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

King pulls guard effortlessly.
King wants to get back to his feet but Randolph is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bear King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
