Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Andy Wates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Erick Turner!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wates closes this distance looking for a takedown but Turner circles away.
Turner displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wates.
No joy there for Turner, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've been told by Wates's head coaches at The Fortress that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Turner connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Wates shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Wates. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Turner dips to his left and cracks Wates with an uppercut!
Turner lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Wates sprawling to the canvas. Turner follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Wates hang on?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wates trying to hold on to Turner's head to control him but Turner postures up.
Wates has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Turner is on him like a limpet, forcing Wates back against the cage.
Wates lands a body shot in the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Wates lands with a short shot to the head.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Wates has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Turner is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Turner displaying some good clinch control by pressing Wates up against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Wates jumps into guard, dragging Turner to the mat.
Wates pulls Turner in close to prevent any damage.
Wates is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wates stands up out of the half guard.
Turner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Turner misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Turner looks winded!
Wates avoids a punch combination nicely.
Erick Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wates shoots in for a double leg but Turner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wates feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Turner wants to get back to his feet but Wates passes into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wates looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wates is trying for a kimura here. Turner looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Wates wins by kimura!
