The crowd seem to be enjoying Azevedo's choice of entrance music: Welcome To The Jungle. Chris Karter has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Karter!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Augusto Azevedo!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left lands for Karter.
Karter looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Karter lands with a good body shot.

Azevedo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Azevedo looking to pass the guard.
Karter keeping moving, preventing Azevedo from controlling successfully.
Azevedo is looking to pass into half guard but Karter pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Karter is in guard.


Azevedo is looking for a triangle but Karter pushes his legs off easily.
Karter controlling from the top position.
Karter postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Karter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Azevedo is keeping the position for now.
Azevedo looking for a sweep. Not yet Azevedo, not yet.

Karter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Azevedo controls Karter momentarily but Karter frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Karter not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Azevedo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Azevedo looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Karter has picked Azevedo up and slammed him! Azevedo can't keep hold of the triangle and Karter manages to pass to side control!
Karter controls the position from side control.
Karter tries to move into full mount but can't pass Azevedo's legs.
Azevedo tries to buck Karter off but Karter is having none of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
We've been informed that Azevedo has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Azevedo doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Karter to counter with a crisp jab.
Azevedo misses with a takedown attempt
and Karter counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Karter scores with a jab. Azevedo acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

and Karter counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Chris Karter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Augusto Azevedo.
Left hook, right uppercut from Karter.


It looks like Augusto Azevedo has been cut.
Azevedo shoots and misses
enabling Karter to counter with a crisp jab.
A nice leg kick lands there from Karter.
Karter uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Azevedo has time to react.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Good exchange - Karter coming out on top.


Azevedo is rocked!
Azevedo is looking to clinch but Karter is avoiding it.
Azevedo is still on wobbly legs! Can Karter finish him?
Azevedo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Karter counters with a huge left! Azevedo is in big trouble! He's backing up but Karter isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Azevedo from any more damage. A dominating finish by Karter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Karter!
Chris Karter retains his featherweight title!
A very excited looking Chris Karter rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
