PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Chang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Bax (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Chang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Bax!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chang keeps the fight on the outside.
Bax tries to score a power double leg takedown but Chang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bax somewhat.
Chang tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Bax manages to circle out of the way.

Chang closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bax pulls guard successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chang accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Chang throws a big elbow that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bax utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Chang trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Bax controls Chang momentarily but Chang frees himself.

Bax has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chang can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Chang throws a big elbow that misses.

Chang stopping the sweep attempt from Bax.
Chang in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bax is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Bax thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Chang postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Chang is in close to Bax's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Chang looking to sit in guard and control but Bax gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Chang keeping moving, preventing Bax from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chang looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chang being controlled here, momentarily.
Bax postures up in Chang's guard and throws a big left but Chang blocks it.
Chang trying to keep a closed guard but Bax is proving a slippery customer.
Chang wants to sweep here but Bax controlling him for the moment.
Bax wants to control from the top but Chang keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bax wants to pass the guard but Chang is keeping the position.
Bax forces his way into half guard.
Chang is controlling Bax's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Chang is not content to let Bax control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chang won't allow Bax to pass to mount.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Bax pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Chang thinks about countering with a head kick.
Bax shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chang but Chang pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Chang misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Chang shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bax sprawls well. Bax wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chang gets slowly back to his feet.
Billy Bax seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Chang gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bax to score an easy takedown into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Bax dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Danga de danga de dang - Bax scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Sam Chang has been cut.
Nice takedown defense from Chang. No joy for Bax on that attempt.
Chang lands a nice looking body kick.
Bax moves out of range of the body kick from Chang.
Bax shoots and misses
and Chang counters with a nice uppercut.
Bax tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bax moves into the clinch successfully.
Chang jumps guard but Bax turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Chang throws a knee to the head but misses.

Bax works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chang wants to sweep here but Bax controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Chang working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bax doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bax manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bax content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bax wants to control from the top but Chang keeps moving.
Bax has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bax gets to his feet - Chang follows without any prompting.

Bax closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Chang is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Bax gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Chang looking to slow down the pace here.

Bax gets control of Chang's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bax will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Chang won't allow Bax to sweep him here.

Chang stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Bax throws up his legs and catches Chang in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Chang tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Bax! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Billy Bax!
