The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roach throws a looping overhand right but Custer ducks down to avoid it.

Custer has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The fighters circle momentarily. Custer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Roach has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Custer crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Roach - the referee stops the clock and Custer gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Roach. Custer manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Custer stands up over Roach, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Roach wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Custer manages to pass to side control.

Custer takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Custer working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Custer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Custer looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Roach with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Custer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Custer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roach does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A relieved looking Jesse Custer thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
