PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Raleigh Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vlad Dr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Raleigh Richard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vlad Dr!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Ivan Kurochkin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richard misses with a hook.
Dr throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Dr misses with a few strikes there.
Richard on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Dr shoots in looking for a takedown but Richard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dr's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Richard tries to counter with a takedown but Dr is quick to defend against it.
Richard defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dr.
Dr misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Richard seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

and Richard counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Richard.
Dr wants to get back to his feet but Richard passes into half guard.
Raleigh Richard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vlad Dr.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Richard perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Richard thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Richard working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Dr keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Richard decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Dr looks winded!
Richard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dr looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Dr throws a head kick that misses

so Richard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Richard decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dr, up you get!

Richard moves into range and clinches up with Dr.
Richard scores with a nice hook to the head.
A nice right hand lands inside from Richard.

Richard pulls guard successfully.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Richard is pulling down on Dr's head. It's preventing any offense from Dr, at least for the moment.
Richard wants to sweep but no luck.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Richard is on top in guard.

Richard lands a couple of digs.

Dr working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Richard.
Dr is trying to hold Richard in close to prevent damage but Richard has managed to pass into half guard.
Well, if Richard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Richard stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Richard uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dr.
Dr tries to clinch but Richard is having none of it.
Richard keeps the fight on the outside.
Richard throws a head kick but Dr moves out of range.
Dr has his takedown stuffed

and Richard counters with a shoot takedown. Dr fights it but they end up in guard.

Dr is working an open guard so Richard takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raleigh Richard dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dr tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Richard paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dr shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Richard pinned against the cage. Richard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Richard throws a nice looking combination but Dr bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Dr doesn't manage to clinch there - Richard circles away.
Dr lands with an overhand left.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Richard counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Dr!
Richard misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Richard decides to stand back up.
Vlad Dr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dr is breathing heavily.
Richard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dr throws a head kick that misses.
As Dr tries to get set, Richard tries to push him back and clinch up but Dr manages to avoid the attempt.
Dr throws a nice inside leg kick.
Richard slaps away a takedown attempt from Dr, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Richard rushes Dr and presses him up against the cage.
Dr is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Richard has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Dr clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Richard keeps control of the position easily here as Dr tries to buck him off.
Richard has the hooks in. Dr is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Richard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Richard has good solid back control here.

Richard's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Dr just trying to survive but Richard is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dr covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

Richard scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Raleigh Richard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Richard has Dr flattened out and is raining down punches.
Dr is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dr grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Dr thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Richard if he has to take too many more of those.
A nice combination there by Richard.
Some wild striking there from Richard.
Dr tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

It looks like Raleigh Richard has been cut.
Richard lands a shoulder strike.
Richard has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Dr changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Richard fights it off and pushes away nicely.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Richard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Richard stays in close to Dr's body and controls the position.
Dr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Richard tries to counter with a takedown but Dr is quick to defend against it.
Dr shoots for a double leg takedown but Richard sprawls well. He's pushed Dr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A jab from Richard finds it's way through Dr's defenses.

Richard works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Richard stays in close to Dr's body and controls the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Richard counters by moving into the clinch.
Richard lands a right hand.
Richard has Dr pressed against the cage.
Dr is trying to drag Richard to the mat but Richard just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Vlad Dr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Richard is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Richard is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dr can't fight it off and eventually Richard manages to take the fight to the floor. Dr looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Richard is standing up over Dr. Dr looks to escape but Richard dives into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vlad Dr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Richard has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
