PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alex Trager (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rock Machine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Trager might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bang Bang. Machine is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Hell Yeah. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Trager!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rock Machine!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machine takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Machine has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Machine rushes Trager and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Machine tries to circle away but Trager has him pinned against the cage.
Machine misses with the head strike.
Machine holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Trager lands a body shot.

Machine breaks from the clinch.
Machine misses with a series of wild punches.
Trager uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Machine.
Trager avoids the body shot from Machine.
Machine misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trager tries for a takedown but Machine sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Machine moves out of range of the leg kick from Trager.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Machine! But no joy.
Machine throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Trager on the side of the head.

Machine closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Trager blocks an uppercut.
Trager prevents Machine from breaking the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trager wants a takedown but no success here.
Machine tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Trager's elbow.
Trager is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Machine to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Trager. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Machine wants to get back to striking at distance but Trager won't allow it.
Machine wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Trager breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Machine lunges at Trager with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Trager's hand.
Trager has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Trager feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Machine utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Machine is pulling down on Trager's head. It's preventing any offense from Trager, at least for the moment.

Machine wants to stand up but Trager is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Machine tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Machine preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Trager postures up in Machine's guard and throws a big left but Machine blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machine throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Trager missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Machine has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Machine is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Machine lands with a shot to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Trager is defended easily by Machine.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Trager.
Machine fails to land the takedown.
Trager appears to be looking for a big counter.
Trager shoots in but Machine avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Machine scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Machine slaps away a takedown attempt from Trager, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Machine throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Trager bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Machine wants to control but Trager postures up.
Trager working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Trager goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Machine rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Trager's guard! Nice work there by Machine!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Trager escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Machine gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Trager is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Machine defends well.

Trager has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Machine is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Trager.
You can see the frustration on Trager's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rock Machine dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Trager is looking for a counter combo.
Trager leaves Machine with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Trager keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
It looked like Trager was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Machine.
Machine looks to score with a jab to the body but Trager is just out of range.

Trager closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Machine's guard.

Trager is working Machine over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

No joy there for Machine, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Machine will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Trager throws a big counter combination but Machine scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Rock Machine seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Trager closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Trager drops down looking for an ankle pick but Machine pulls his leg out and moves away.
Trager takes one to the chin there.
Trager shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Machine defends it nicely.
Alex Trager is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Machine tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Trager was well out of range. Poor timing from Machine.

Machine misses with a hook. Trager ducked under it nicely.

Machine gets a clinch.
Machine misses with a punch on the inside.
Trager is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Machine pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Trager. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Trager jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Machine walks away with a smile on his face. Trager gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Machine moves in looking to clinch but Trager pushes him off.

Trager shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Trager is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Machine has managed to free his arm - good work.

Alex Trager overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Machine wants to get back to his feet but Trager is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Trager looking to pass the guard.
Machine looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Trager postures up.
Trager stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machine swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Trager throws a big elbow that misses.

Trager loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Machine is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Machine looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Trager accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Trager postures up in Machine's guard and throws a big left but Machine blocks it.

Machine working for a triangle but Trager defends it easily.
Machine preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Trager throws a strike but Machine rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Machine works over Trager with some ground and pound from guard.

Rock Machine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
