With a record of 19 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Kimura!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kimura shoots in for a takedown but Stevens shows good takedown defense.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Stevens enables Kimura to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stevens manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Stevens has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Stevens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kimura can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kimura doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Kimura is looking to sweep but instead, Stevens has passed into half guard.
Stevens is pressing down on Kimura's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kimura is holding on for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kimura slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Stevens passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Kimura wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Kimura throws a punch from the bottom, which has left him a bit exposed here… Stevens has an arm triangle now. This could be big trouble for Kimura. He's out! He's out cold! The ref pulls Stevens off and Stevens celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Frank Stevens!
