PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kirk Boon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romeo Hernanes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boon comes to the cage accompanied by American Ninja 2 OST - Truckin'. Hernanes has chosen Awolnation - Sail as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 22 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Romeo Hernanes!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hernanes is fending him off so far but Boon persists. Nope, Hernanes circles away and we're back to standing.
Hernanes getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Boon avoids the head kick by Hernanes.

Hernanes gets a clinch.

Hernanes manages to break the clinch.
Hernanes throws a series of punches but Boon avoids them all with ease.
Hernanes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Boon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Boon dives in for a single leg takedown but Hernanes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Boon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hernanes tries to avoid it but Boon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hernanes to the ground. Hernanes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hernanes changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kirk Boon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Boon is defended easily by Hernanes.
Boon has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Hernanes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hernanes misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hernanes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hernanes circles away.
Hernanes throws a right and a left that both miss.

Boon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hernanes is trying to defend but Boon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Hernanes wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Boon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hernanes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Boon.
Hernanes is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.

Boon is looking for submissions but instead, Hernanes has regained full guard.
Boon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hernanes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boon is controlling him.

Boon postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hernanes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Boon, into his guard.

Hernanes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hernanes has managed to get both his arms back between Boon's legs - danger averted.
Boon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hernanes is one step ahead there.

Boon looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hernanes has picked Boon up and slammed him! Boon can't keep hold of the triangle and Hernanes manages to pass to side control!
Boon tries to improve position but can't.

Hernanes decides to stand back up.

Boon drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hernanes wants to stand and escape but Boon is having none of it.

Boon postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hernanes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Boon, into his guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Boon has his foot on Hernanes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hernanes works his way back into a safe position though.
Boon is breathing heavily.

Boon looking for a guillotine here but Hernanes defends easily.

Hernanes gets to his feet - Boon follows without any prompting.
Boon shoots in looking for a takedown but Hernanes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boon's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Hernanes lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Boon is rocked!

It looks like Kirk Boon has been cut.
Hernanes batters Boon with a massive right followed by a huge left! Boon is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Hernanes lands a final crushing right hand to drop Boon to the mat with a gruesome thud! Hernanes is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!
