PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Salvatore Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Anvil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Salvatore Richard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Anvil!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anvil wants to clinch up but Richard keeps it at a distance.
Richard appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Anvil looking to score a takedown here. Richard is defending well but Anvil drives through and ends up in Richard's guard.
Richard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Anvil drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Richard dives on top into guard.

Anvil controls Richard momentarily but Richard frees himself.

Anvil looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Richard throws an elbow that misses. Anvil uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Richard's guard. Nice move by Anvil!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Richard pushes Anvil off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Anvil feints and as Richard raises his hands in defense, Anvil changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Richard is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Anvil is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Richard wants to stand and escape but Anvil is having none of it.

Richard has his foot on Anvil's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Anvil works his way back into a safe position though.

Anvil seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Anvil is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Richard sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Anvil.
You can see the frustration on Richard's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Richard is looking to regain half guard here but Anvil keeps moving and retains side control.

Anvil stands up.
Anvil tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Richard shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Anvil as he jumps to the side.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Anvil fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Richard sprawls well initially but Anvil persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Anvil dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Anvil shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Richard is trying to get back to full guard.
Anvil wants to lay and pray for a moment but Richard keeps working.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Anvil tries to close the distance and clinch up but Richard swats him away and circles back towards the center.
James Anvil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Anvil.
Richard manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Richard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Anvil bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Anvil goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Richard has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Anvil but great work by Richard.

Richard has control of an arm but Anvil manages to advance to Richard's back!

A combination from Anvil does no damage.
Richard tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Anvil manages to circle out of the way.
Anvil is looking to clinch.
Richard circles away from the clinch attempt.
It looked like Richard was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Anvil.

And that's the end of the fight!
Salvatore Richard showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Richard has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
