PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Liam Kelley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gaspard Wasp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gaspard Wasp was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Liam Kelley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gaspard Wasp!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Igor Prikhodko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wasp fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kelley looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kelley misses the shot to the body.
Wasp misses with a body kick.
Liam Kelley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wasp misses with a head kick.
Kelley misses the jab.
Wasp raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Kelley smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Wasp slips a straight right by Kelley.
Kelley lands a nice looking kick to the body. Wasp takes a step back to recover.
Wasp shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good work by Kelley as he checks the leg kick.
Kelley throws the kick towards the body but Wasp avoids it.
The fighters circling - Kelley throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Wasp raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Kelley swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Wasp uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kelley.
Wasp connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kelley. Kelley circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Kelley loads up on a big right hand but Wasp slips the punch.
We've been hearing reports that Kelley has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Wasp has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kelley.
Wasp takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kelley lands a nice leg kick that just misses Wasp's sensitive parts.
Kelley lands the left hand.
Liam Kelley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kelley connects with a high kick.
Wasp lands a leg kick that knocks Kelley off balance momentarily.
Wasp misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Wasp misses with a few strikes there.
Kelley misses with an attempted mid kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wasp has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kelley.

No joy there for Wasp, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Wasp throws a nice looking combination but Kelley bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kelley feinted there with a counter leg kick.
A leg kick checked by Wasp.
Wasp drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Kelley defends it well.
Wasp misses with a lunging right hand
and Kelley counters with a stiff right hand.
Wasp will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kelley was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Kelley defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wasp.
A good leg kick by Kelley.

Wasp darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Kelley is defending against the submission attempts here by Wasp.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kelley is doing well to control the position and prevent Wasp from advancing to side control.
Wasp trying to control the action but Kelley is working from the bottom.
Kelley moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Kelley is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Kelley working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Wasp.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kelley is controlling Wasp's posture.
Kelley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wasp's guard.

Kelley is in close to Wasp's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Kelley chips away with some ground and pound.
Our spies down at at Bobby B's Gem inform us that Wasp has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Wasp throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Kelley trying to control the position from guard on top but Wasp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wasp with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Kelley can't handle though.
Wasp is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Liam Kelley will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kelley takes a swing at Wasp's ribcage but misses.
Kelley lands a glancing blow to the side of Wasp's head.

Wasp gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Kelley breaks from the clinch.
Donk. Wasp catches Kelley right on the button with a cross.

Oooooh!!! Wasp has knocked Kelley down with a huge combo! Wasp steps away and waves a wobbly Kelley back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wasp moves out of range of the leg kick from Kelley.

Kelley connects with a crisp jab.
Nice cross by Kelley.
Wasp misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kelley.
Kelley fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Kelley moves out of range as Wasp strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wasp takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Whack! Kelley lands a heavy head kick that drops Wasp. The ref tackles Kelley to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Wasp was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Liam Kelley!
After the fight, Liam Kelley was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
