PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sailor Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Kutowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Disciples of Power - Lords of Creation. Kutowski is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Absolute Beginner - Nie Nett. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sailor Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karl Kutowski!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kutowski cracks the inside of Gracie's front leg.
Kutowski tries a head kick but it misses.
Kutowski swings for the body but Gracie moves out of range.
Kutowski is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Kutowski ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.
Kutowski throws a body shot but no joy.
Nice cross by Kutowski.
Gracie looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gracie takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Kutowski jabs Gracie to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Gracie tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kutowski defends well and Gracie ends up having to push Kutowski into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kutowski throws a fast counter high kick but Gracie manages to duck under it in time.
Kutowski connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gracie. Gracie circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Kutowski scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gracie doesn't seem bothered though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kutowski lands a nice looking body shot.

A head kick misses from Kutowski.
Kutowski looks to throw a body kick

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kutowski won't be happy with that.
Kutowski is looking to regain half guard here but Gracie keeps moving and retains side control.
Kutowski is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gracie's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Kutowski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gracie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kutowski's head.
Kutowski is refusing to be controlled, as Gracie sits in half guard.
Gracie sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kutowski defending well though.
Kutowski has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.

Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kutowski has managed to free his arm - good work.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Kutowski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie wants to work for an arm triangle but Kutowski is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kutowski is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

Gracie wants to work for an arm triangle but Kutowski is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kutowski is concentrating on defense, preventing Gracie from advancing position.
Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kutowski knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Well, if Gracie is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kutowski keeps working.
Kutowski is controlling Gracie's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gracie takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Gracie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Gracie throws an elbow but Kutowski slips to the side and avoids it well.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Kutowski sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Kutowski is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Kutowski dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kutowski looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kutowski, who protects the arm well.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Kutowski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kutowski is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Kutowski is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Gracie in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Kutowski is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

A very excited looking Sailor Gracie made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
