PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil High (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrey Koreshkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koreshkov has chosen Beyoncé - 7/11 as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Phil High!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrey Koreshkov!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
High scores with the left hand. Koreshkov knows he should have avoided that one.
Koreshkov on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
High misses with a kick to the body.
High moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Andrey Koreshkov has been cut.

Koreshkov manages to get an easy takedown there - catching High on his heels. He'll look to pass High's guard now, I'm sure.

Koreshkov wants to pass the guard but High is keeping the position.

Koreshkov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Koreshkov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Koreshkov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

High pulls Koreshkov in close to his closed guard and prevents Koreshkov from doing any damage or advancing position.

Koreshkov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Koreshkov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Koreshkov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Koreshkov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. High swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Horrible takedown attempt by Koreshkov or perhaps it was just good defense by High, which made it look bad.

High throws a lazy right hand but Koreshkov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Koreshkov tries to free his leg and advance position but High is retaining full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
High is pulling down on Koreshkov's head. It's preventing any offense from Koreshkov, at least for the moment.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

High throws the kick towards the body but Koreshkov avoids it.
A punch lands to the side of Koreshkov 's head but he takes it in his stride.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Andrey Koreshkov's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Koreshkov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. High defends it nicely.
Koreshkov has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from High finds it's way round the side to connect with Koreshkov's head.

and High counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
High stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and High wants it to stay on the feet.
Phil High has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrey Koreshkov.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
High misses with a wild combination.
And Koreshkov tries to counter it with a takedown but High pushes his down on his head and steps out.

High lands a big head kick that sends Koreshkov tumbling to the mat! High takes a step backwards and waves Koreshkov back to his feet - he wants the finish!

High lands with a shot to the body.
High throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Koreshkov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Koreshkov drops back looking for a leg! High is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and High manages to kick Koreshkov off! Koreshkov jumps back into High's guard.
Koreshkov is breathing heavily.
High is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Koreshkov is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
High has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

And Koreshkov tries to counter it with a takedown but High pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Koreshkov shoots in for a takedown but High shows good takedown defense.

Koreshkov closes the distance and clinches.
High tries to work over Koreshkov's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
High throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Koreshkovs head.
I was talking to High's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
High lands with a short head shot on the inside.
High lands a right hand.
A right hand to the body from High.
High tries to work over Koreshkov's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Koreshkov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
High stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
High lands a nice uppercut.
Good body shot from High.
High lands a hook that snaps the head of Koreshkov backwards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
High tries to throw a body punch but Koreshkov avoids it by throwing High back against the cage.
High digs a right hand underneath Koreshkov's ribcage. Koreshkov let out a lung full of air as it connected.
High lands a body punch.
High makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
A hook to the body from High.
High tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Koreshkov tries to pull guard but High forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by High.
A body shot lands from High.
Nice body punch from High - that landed with a thud.
High lands a body shot in the clinch.
High lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Koreshkov backwards.
High lands a left hand that snaps the head of Koreshkov backwards.
High lands a right hand.
High lands with a left to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil High dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Andrey Koreshkov's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Koreshkov walks straight into a right hand from High - that's dropped him! High jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Koreshkov from any more punishment! Koreshkov complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Phil High!
