PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Wilkinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Galt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilkinson's entrance music is The Game is Over. A fine choice. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rashad Wilkinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Galt!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilkinson throws a nice looking combination but Galt bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Galt closes the distance and clinches.

Galt pulls guard effortlessly.
Galt looking for a sweep. Not yet Galt, not yet.

Galt is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Galt is trying to control the position but Wilkinson postures up.
Galt looking for a sweep. Not yet Galt, not yet.
Wilkinson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wilkinson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Galt sees it coming and defends easily.
Wilkinson trying to mount his opponent but Galt defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Galt is looking for a sweep. Wilkinson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Galt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wilkinson is working away from the top position though.
Wilkinson is looking to advance position but Galt won't allow it.
Wilkinson wants to advance to full mount but Galt doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Wilkinson cracks Galt with a solid left hand.
Wilkinson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Galt swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Galt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Wilkinson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Galt manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Galt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wilkinson wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Galt missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Galt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wilkinson keeps working.
Galt is pressing down on Wilkinson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wilkinson is holding on for now.
Galt passes to full mount!
Wilkinson tries to hold on but Galt pushes him away.

Galt has control of Wilkinson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Wilkinson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wilkinson avoids a series of strikes thrown by Galt.
We've been hearing good reports from Wilkinson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Galt moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Wilkinson has worked his arm free - good work by Wilkinson!
Wilkinson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Galt.
Wilkinson stops Galt from passing to mount.
Wilkinson can't do much from the bottom here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wilkinson is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Galt dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Wilkinson throws a hook to the side of Galt's head but Galt sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Galt blocks a jab.
Wilkinson slaps away a takedown attempt from Galt, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Galt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wilkinson's waist but Wilkinson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Galt off to one side.
Wilkinson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And Galt tries to counter it with a takedown but Wilkinson pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Wilkinson throws a shot to the body.
Wilkinson on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Rashad Wilkinson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A jab from Wilkinson does it's job there.
Wilkinson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wilkinson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Galt throws a jab when Wilkinson was well out of range.
No joy there for Wilkinson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Galt clinches up with Wilkinson and pushes him back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wilkinson lands a takedown into guard.

Wilkinson is sitting in close to Galt's body. Galt has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Wilkinson is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Wilkinson is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Galt.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). John Galt!
After winning the bout, John Galt thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
