PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lance Hardwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeshi Watanabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hardwood comes into the arena with Stone Sour - Last Of The Real blaring out of the sound system. Watanabe has chosen The Handsome Family - Far From Any Road as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Takeshi Watanabe will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watanabe takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
We've been hearing reports that Hardwood has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Hardwood changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Watanabe looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Watanabe can do anything to dispel that myth.

Watanabe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hardwood's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Lance Hardwood overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hardwood fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hardwood bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Watanabe's head backwards.

Watanabe throws a right and a left that Hardwood avoids nicely.
Watanabe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Hardwood looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lance Hardwood. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hardwood feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Hardwood is stinking the place up with his stalling.
Hardwood seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Watanabe for as long as he can get away with.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Hardwood changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Watanabe tries to avoid it but Hardwood manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Watanabe to the ground. Watanabe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Watanabe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hardwood moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
