PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Keiichi Yamada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sharky Shark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shark is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Stand My Ground. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Keiichi Yamada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sharky Shark!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shark takes a swing at Yamada's ribcage but misses.

Shark closes the distance and clinches.
Yamada scores with an uppercut up the middle.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Yamada.
Yamada doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A head punch on the inside from Yamada fails to land.
A shot in the inside from Yamada.
A nice left hand lands by Yamada.

Shark is trying to break the clinch but Yamada is controlling him.

Shark flicks out a counter leg kick but Yamada steps away.
Shark throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Shark has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Shark throws a head kick but Yamada moves out of range.
Shark avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Yamada takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Yamada takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Yamada displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Shark throws out the jab.

Shark fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Yamada, pushing him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yamada works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Yamada misses with a punch to the body.
Yamada prevents a body shot from Shark.
Shark misses with a short punch on the inside.

Yamada has picked Shark up - he's going for a ride! Yamada dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Shark is refusing to be controlled, as Yamada sits in half guard.
Yamada takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Yamada wants to control from the top but Shark keeps moving.
Yamada throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shark works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Yamada postures up in Shark's guard and throws a big left but Shark blocks it.
Yamada stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shark swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shark working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yamada doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yamada manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Shark looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yamada is one step ahead there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Yamada wants to control from the top but Shark keeps moving.
Yamada stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shark swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've been hearing that Yamada has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Yamada passes Shark's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Shark is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Yamada scores with a couple of nice shots.
Yamada trying to mount his opponent but Shark defends it.
Shark has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yamada is working away from the top position though.
Yamada seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shark does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yamada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shark's waist but Shark gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Yamada off to one side.

Yamada takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Yamada accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Yamada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Shark is trying to stick to Yamada's back but Yamada is turning into Shark. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Shark's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Yamada.
Shark can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Yamada controls the pace.

Shark is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Yamada's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Yamada's back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Yamada defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Shark's arms.
Yamada breaks Shark's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Keiichi Yamada will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Shark enables Yamada to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shark manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Yamada distracts Shark with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Yamada has gone for a leg lock! Shark slips out almost immediately though and dives into Yamada's guard.


Yamada has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shark can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Yamada is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shark pulls his head out easily.
Shark wants to pass the guard but Yamada is defending well.
Sharky Shark has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Still in half guard, Shark seems content to control.

Shark is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Yamada is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Yamada is working hard here to advance position.

Shark seems to be working for a kimura but Yamada defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are battling for position here. Yamada manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Shark must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Shark thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Yamada looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Shark is defending well. Yamada quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Shark has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Yamada celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
