PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Danial Whitney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor Ho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ho has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Trevor Ho looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Trevor Ho!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ho gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ho looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Ho prevents a takedown attempt there.
Whitney wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Ho drops down looking for an ankle pick but Whitney pulls his leg out and moves away.

Whitney changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ho looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ho tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Ho wants to control his opponent's hands but Whitney gets his hands free.

Whitney is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Ho knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Ho for a finish.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Whitney looking to break Ho's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Ho remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Whitney will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Ho falls off balance throwing a combination
and Whitney counters with a nice uppercut.
Whitney tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ho paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ho looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Whitney scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Whitney slaps away a takedown attempt from Ho, before circling back to the center of the mat.
It looked like Whitney was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Whitney throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ho.
Despite the aggression on Ho's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
The fight stays on the outside here - Whitney looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Whitney is trying to drag Ho to the mat but Ho just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Whitney has Ho pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ho manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Whitney jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ho walks away with a smile on his face. Whitney gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Whitney counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Whitney shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ho but Ho pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ho throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Whitney's waist but Whitney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ho off to one side.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Ho moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Ho rushes Whitney and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Whitney has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ho is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Whitney is trying to break the clinch but Ho is controlling him.
Ho wants a takedown but no success here.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Whitney, as that shot connected.

Whitney wants to get back to striking at distance but Ho won't allow it.

Whitney shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Whitney was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Ho's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Whitney is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ho has escaped the position, nice work there.

Whitney decides to stand back up. Whitney steps back and let's Ho get back to his feet.
Ho misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jab, jab by Whitney - just one landing.
Danial Whitney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice shot lands for Whitney.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ho shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Whitney defends it nicely.

Well Whitney has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
