The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eronen misses with a straight right.
Smesman gets caught flat footed, as Eronen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Eronen wants to control from the top but Smesman keeps moving.
Eronen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smesman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smesman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Eronen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Eronen goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Smesman has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Eronen but great work by Smesman.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Smesman lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Eronen has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Eronen and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Eronen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Smesman fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Eronen.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Eronen shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Smesman takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Eronen clobbers Smesman with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Smesman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Eronen, pushing him back against the cage.
