Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Huey Roth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James O Neill !
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roth fakes high and swings low for a body shot but O Neill manages to avoid it.
Roth uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from O Neill .
Roth comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

O Neill moves into the clinch.

O Neill manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Roth controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
O Neill wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Roth checks a leg kick.

Roth has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. O Neill is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

O Neill wants to break free but Roth has control.

Roth escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roth controls O Neill momentarily but O Neill frees himself.

Roth has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. O Neill is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Roth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Roth regains half guard.
Roth wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Roth manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
O Neill passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Roth is trying to control but O Neill passes into side control!
O Neill is looking to take a break and control but Roth is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roth dodges the ground and pound from O Neill .

You can see the frustration on Roth's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Roth tries to lock up and control but O Neill gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, O Neill cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
O Neill trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Roth throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw O Neill working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Roth is wriggling around trying to escape.
Roth is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

O Neill swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Roth is now in O Neill 's guard. A big mistake from O Neill there, giving up the dominant position!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Roth is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but O Neill pulls his head out easily.

Roth is staying active underneath O Neill , who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Roth has his hands clasped together around O Neill 's back. He's all about the action.
O Neill is figuring out what he wants to do next.

O Neill has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Roth gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows O Neill to score an easy takedown into full guard.

O Neill drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and O Neill jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Roth has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but O Neill can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

O Neill decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Roth, up you get!

Roth wants to get back to striking at distance but O Neill won't allow it.

O Neill has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Roth clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
I would not like to be Roth right now.
Roth wants to control his opponent's hands but O Neill gets his hands free.

James O Neill showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Roth could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

O Neill avoids the attempt from Roth to control.

O Neill connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Roth is trying desperately to improve position.

O Neill cracks Roth with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Roth is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

O Neill postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Roth looks a forlorn figure.
