Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Darmody!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Darmody connects with a body shot.
Lesnar misses with the combination.
Nice body punch from Darmody.
The fighters circle momentarily. Darmody darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Lesnar takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Darmody closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Darmody throws a one two combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lesnar misses the shot to the body.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Darmody! But no joy.
Darmody slips a jab and a cross from Lesnar.

Lesnar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Darmody is fending him off so far but Lesnar persists. Nope, Darmody circles away and we're back to standing.
Darmody misses with a series of wild punches.

Nice uppercut there from Darmody.
Darmody stuns Lesnar with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Darmody lands with a nice combination. Lesnar backs away looking to recover.
Lesnar throws a sloppy head kick and Darmody moves out of range easily.
Darmody shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Lesnar eats them both and turns towards Darmody to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Darmody throws a right hand that Lesnar ducks under and follows up with a left that Lesnar also avoids with ease.
Darmody connects with a body shot that sends Lesnar's belly button to the back.
James Darmody is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Lesnar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Darmody, pushing him back against the cage.
Lesnar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Darmody fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Darmody ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lesnar moves away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Darmody lands a nice looking body shot.
Darmody scores with a jab to the body.
Darmody throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lesnar.
Darmody looks winded!
Darmody swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lesnar changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Lesnar loads up on a big right hand but Darmody slips the punch.
No joy there for Lesnar, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Darmody has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Lesnar is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Darmody avoids the head kick by Lesnar.

Darmody gets caught flat footed, as Lesnar shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Darmody is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lesnar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Lesnar stands and steps away. Darmody gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Darmody wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Darmody pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Lesnar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lesnar stands and steps away. Darmody gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

It seemed like Darmody was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Darmody takes a swing at Lesnar's ribcage but misses.
Lesnar tries to counter with a takedown but Darmody is quick to defend against it.

Darmody rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lesnar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lesnar slips a jab and a cross from Darmody.
Lesnar throws a right and a left that Darmody avoids nicely.
Darmody stuffs the takedown attempt from Lesnar. Lesnar gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lesnar rushes Darmody and presses him up against the cage.
Lesnar is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Darmody gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Lesnar is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Darmody to keep the fight standing.

Lesnar pulls guard effortlessly.
Lesnar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lesnar has his feet on Darmody's thighs here. He's pushed Darmody off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Darmody screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alex Lesnar!
A determined Alex Lesnar didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
In defeat, James Darmody stepped up to the mic, saying 'I blame God for this loss. He wasn't with me tonight, he usually is, but he must be mad at me or something, I dunno'.
