PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mel Huff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Crowlet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mel Huff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Crowlet!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crowlet drives through with a takedown into guard.
Crowlet's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Huff wants to stand up but Crowlet is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crowlet is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Huff keeping full guard, as Crowlet tries to pass.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Crowlet misses with a series of wild punches.

Crowlet closes the distance and pushes Huff back into the cage.

Crowlet pulls guard effortlessly.

Crowlet is trying to control the position but Huff postures up.
Huff missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Crowlet utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Crowlet looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crowlet pulls Huff in close to prevent any damage.
Huff in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Crowlet is pulling down on Huff's head to control his posture.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Crowlet is looking for a triangle but Huff pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Crowlet is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Huff closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Crowlet's guard.
Huff with a flurry of punches that miss.
Crowlet is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Huff will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Crowlet is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Huff is aware though and is defending well.

Crowlet is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Huff trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Huff throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Crowlet works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Crowlet looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Crowlet pushes down on Huff's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Crowlet is looking for a kimura but Huff is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Crowlet to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Crowlet dominated that round.

Crowlet closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Huff to the mat! Huff manages to get full guard.
Crowlet wants to control from the top but Huff keeps moving.
Crowlet is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Crowlet is looking to stand up but Huff won't let him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Huff wants to stand up but Crowlet is controlling him.
Crowlet has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Let's hope that Crowlet has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Crowlet. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Huff is trying hard to land a takedown here. Crowlet sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Crowlet clinches up with Huff and pushes him back against the cage.
Crowlet is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Crowlet successfully pulls guard.

Crowlet wants to sweep here but Huff controlling him for the moment.
Huff is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Crowlet pulls Huff in to control the position.
Crowlet wants to stand but Huff is controlling the position.
Crowlet has control of Huff's left arm, preventing Huff from doing any damage.

Crowlet is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Crowlet is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Huff is holding on to half guard well.
Huff is staying active underneath Crowlet, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Crowlet keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Huff is trying to control but Crowlet passes into side control!
Crowlet wants to take a breather but Huff manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Crowlet.

Huff wants to sweep but no luck.
Crowlet wants to pass the guard but Huff is keeping the position.

John Crowlet showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Huff throws Crowlet to one side and escapes!

Crowlet stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Huff swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Crowlet looking to score a takedown here. Huff is defending well but Crowlet drives through and ends up in Huff's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well Crowlet has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
