The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meridius throws a body punch but Simpson moves out of range.

Simpson drives through with a takedown into Meridius's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Meridius wants to sweep but no luck.
Meridius working a defensive guard but Simpson manages to pass into side control anyway.
Simpson advances nicely into full mount.

Simpson unloads with some shots from mount but Meridius bucks and avoids them well.
Meridius regains half guard.
Simpson wants to take a breather but Meridius is having none of it.
Meridius blocking the ground and pound attempt from Simpson.
Simpson wants to free his trapped foot but Meridius is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Simpson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Meridius's head.

The fighters are battling for position here. Meridius manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Simpson wants to control from the top but Meridius keeps moving.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Meridius holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Simpson works over Meridius with some ground and pound from guard.
Simpson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Simpson content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Meridius has locked up a guillotine! Meridius's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Simpson is holding on here and Meridius must be using up a lot of energy. Simpson has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Meridius gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

An out of breath Decimus Meridius thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
