PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bill Schwartz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Witold Gombrowicz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gombrowicz comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Face The Pain kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bill Schwartz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Witold Gombrowicz!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gombrowicz lands a jab to the head.
Schwartz tries to bum rush Gombrowicz with a series of wild strikes but Gombrowicz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gombrowicz has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Schwartz darts in looking for a takedown but Gombrowicz gets double underhooks and turns Schwartz into the cage.
Bill Schwartz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

so Schwartz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gombrowicz can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Schwartz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gombrowicz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Schwartz is controlling him.
Gombrowicz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schwartz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gombrowicz bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gombrowicz misses with a looping left.
Schwartz attempts a counter takedown but Gombrowicz avoids it well and moves away.
Gombrowicz throws a leg kick but Schwartz moved away.
Gombrowicz throws a wild body kick that Schwartz sees coming a mile off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Witold Gombrowicz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

It seemed like Gombrowicz was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Gombrowicz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Schwartz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gombrowicz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bill Schwartz will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Gombrowicz slaps away a takedown attempt from Schwartz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
As Schwartz backs off Gombrowicz throws a huge counter combo but Schwartz manages to avoid it all.

Gombrowicz gets caught napping as Schwartz dives in and scores a takedown. Gombrowicz manages to retain guard.
Schwartz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Schwartz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Schwartz dives in and grabs Gombrowicz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gombrowicz pushes down on Schwartz's head and hops out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Schwartz shoots in but Gombrowicz avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bill Schwartz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gombrowicz thuds his right hand into Schwartz's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Gombrowicz closes the distance and pushes Schwartz back into the cage.

Schwartz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gombrowicz gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Schwartz is rocked!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gombrowicz stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Oh Schwartz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Gombrowicz clinches up against the cage.
Schwartz seems to have got his legs back now.

Gombrowicz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Schwartz has a takedown stuffed.

And that's the end of the fight!
Witold Gombrowicz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gombrowicz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
