PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darren Lamb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tojii Gambin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lamb comes to the cage accompanied by Tea for the Tillerman. Darren Lamb has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Darren Lamb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tojii Gambin!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lamb misses the jab.
Lamb throws an overhand right that lands on Gambin's shoulder, as Gambin tries to avoid the shot.
Lamb fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gambin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Lamb lands a really nice looking cross but Gambin seems unphased.
Lamb finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Gambin tries to move into range but Lamb moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.


It looks like Tojii Gambin has been cut.
Gambin avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gambin fails to land the takedown.
Gambin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lamb throws a jab when Gambin was well out of range.
Lamb walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Gambin throws a lazy uppercut
enabling Lamb to counter with a crisp jab.
Lamb misses with an uppercut. Gambin saw that one coming.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gambin avoids the body shot from Lamb.
Gambin drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Lamb defends it well.

Gambin stuffs the takedown.
Lamb swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Lamb's corner calls for a 1-2. Lamb obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Lamb defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gambin.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Lamb, as that shot connected.

Gambin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lamb is fending him off so far but Gambin persists. Nope, Lamb circles away and we're back to standing.
Darren Lamb has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tojii Gambin.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gambin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Lamb is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gambin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lamb defends it well.
The fighters are battling for position here. Lamb manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Gambin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lamb manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gambin has Lamb in his guard.

Lamb will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Lamb got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gambin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lamb has managed to get both his arms back between Gambin's legs - danger averted.
Lamb lands a couple of digs.
Gambin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gambin controls Lamb momentarily but Lamb frees himself.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lamb passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Lamb advances to mount.
Lamb landing strikes from the mount.
Gambin sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Lamb takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gambin is looking to improve his position.
Lamb is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Lamb lands with a punch from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gambin shoots for a double leg takedown but Lamb sprawls well. He's pushed Gambin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gambin wants to work for an arm triangle but Lamb is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lamb makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lamb.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gambin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lamb does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gambin connects with a nice short shot to Lamb's temple.

Gambin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lamb is just riding it out for now. Gambin eventually gives up the hold.

Gambin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lamb swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Lamb's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lamb wants to sweep here but Gambin controlling him for the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Lamb looks to land a left hand but Gambin moved out of range nicely.
And Gambin tries to counter it with a takedown but Lamb pushes his down on his head and steps out.

A close second round but Tojii Gambin will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Lamb stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lamb wants it to stay on the feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gambin goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lamb has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gambin but great work by Lamb.

Gambin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lamb is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gambin, into his guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Darren Lamb.
I think Lamb has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
