Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Forrest Gibson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Forrest Gibson has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Forrest Gibson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rick Ross!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ross misses with a hook
and Gibson counters with a three punch combo that has Ross backing up. Ross nods at Gibson to acknowledge the strikes.
Ross tries a head kick but it misses.
Ross closes the distance and clinches up with Gibson, looking for a takedown. Ross pushes Gibson against the cage but Gibson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Gibson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ross to the mat! Ross manages to get full guard.
Gibson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Ross is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ross working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gibson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gibson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gibson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gibson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ross's head.
Ross thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Gibson postures up and lands a big shot to Ross's brow.
Ross really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gibson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ross has his foot on Gibson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gibson works his way back into a safe position though.

Gibson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ross tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gibson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ross somewhat.

and Gibson counters with a right hand to the body.

Gibson drives through and clinches with Ross against the cage.
Ross has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gibson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Ross seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Gibson drops back looking for a leg! Ross is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ross manages to kick Gibson off! Gibson jumps back into Ross's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gibson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Gibson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ross's head.

Ross is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gibson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Ross controls Gibson momentarily but Gibson frees himself.
Gibson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gibson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ross moves into the clinch.
Gibson has had enough of the clinch but Ross keeps him there for the moment.
Ross tries to pull guard but Gibson holds him up against the cage and eventually Ross drops back down to his feet.

Ross can't get the takedown.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gibson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ross walks away with a smile on his face. Gibson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Gibson shoots for a double leg takedown but Ross sprawls well. He's pushed Gibson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rick Ross seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ross changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gibson tries to avoid it but Ross manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gibson to the ground. Gibson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

With the fighters up against the cage, Ross throws an elbow but misses.

Ross using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Gibson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Ross changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gibson fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Gibson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Gibson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ross can do to turn this around?

Gibson leaves Ross with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ross pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Ross showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Gibson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Gibson drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Gibson as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Ross screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Gibson! Nice submission victory there!
