PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Luger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Apollo Gutz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gutz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Luger.
Luger lets loose with a powerful body kick. Gutz will feel that in the morning.

and Luger counters by clinching up.
Gutz keeps control of Luger as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Luger pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A punch lands to the side of Gutz 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Luger looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gutz checks the leg kick nicely there.
The fighters circle momentarily. Gutz darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Gutz throws an overhand right that lands on Luger's shoulder, as Luger tries to avoid the shot.

Gutz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That was a close round but I would say that Shane Luger will probably get the nod.

Gutz cracks Luger with a right hand to the side of the head.

It looks like Shane Luger has been cut.
Gutz thows a left - swing and a miss!
Gutz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Luger.
Shane Luger is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gutz cracks Luger with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Gutz moves out of range as Luger strikes.
Luger clobbers Gutz with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Gutz misses with a wild body shot.
A slapping body kick lands there for Gutz.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gutz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Luger as he avoids it easily.
Luger was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Luger swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Gutz throws out a loose jab but Luger uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gutz dodges the punch combination from Luger.
Gutz feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Luger's calf.

Gutz lands with a thumping leg kick.

No luck for Gutz with that takedown attempt.
Shane Luger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Apollo Gutz.
Luger throws a leg kick but Gutz sees it coming and moves out of range.
Gutz jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Gutz avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Luger, as that shot connected.
Gutz with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Luger to score with a decent uppercut.

Luger misses with a leg kick
enabling Gutz to counter with a crisp jab.
Gutz thuds his right hand into Luger's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Luger avoids the body shot from Gutz.
Gutz throws an off balance right hand
and Luger connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Luger throws a body shot but no joy.

Luger dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gutz. That did some damage!
Gutz digs a good hook to Luger's body.

Luger moves into the clinch.
Gutz stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Gutz blocks a body shot from Luger.
Gutz lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Shane Luger's cut is getting worse.
Gutz trying to stall but Luger improves his position.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Luger as Gutz tries to tie him up.

Luger struggles to land a body shot inside as Gutz controls his hands.
Gutz presses Luger against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Gutz scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Luger doesn't seem bothered though.
Gutz takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Gutz throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Luger crashing down! Luger tries to stagger back to his feet but Gutz just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Luger asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.

Apollo Gutz tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
