Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kieran Summers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mouth for war. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kieran Summers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rickson Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Hemmingworth and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Summers quickly recovers to half guard.
Gracie missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Summers gets back to full guard.
Gracie landing with the ground and pound.
Gracie makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gracie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Summers's guard.
Summers trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Summers is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Summers is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Gracie throwing strikes but missing.
Summers utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Summers tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Summers is trying to keep Gracie in close.

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Summers dives on top into guard.

Summers has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Summers's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Summers from controlling successfully.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Summers trying to control but Gracie is having none of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Summers avoids the attempt from Gracie to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Summers trying to control but Gracie is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kieran Summers will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Summers throws a nice head kick!
Summers throws a push kick but Gracie slaps the foot to one side.
Gracie appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Summers tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gracie drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Summers defends it well.
Gracie moves out of range of the body kick from Summers.
Gracie misses with the combination.
Gracie has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Summers scores with a nice body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie connects with a good right hand that stumbles Summers. Summers circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

and Summers moves into the clinch.
Summers using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Gracie has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Gracie has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Summers regains guard immediately.

Summers has his feet on Gracie's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Gracie misses with a double jab.
Summers looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gracie swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Summers avoids the body shot from Gracie.
Summers takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Gracie lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Summers has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Summers and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Summers tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Gracie manages to circle out of the way.
Gracie looks to land a combination but Summers avoids it well.
Summers avoids the body shot from Gracie.
Kieran Summers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Summers throws a lazy head kick
and Gracie counters with a straight right hand.
Summers throws a leg kick but Gracie moved away.
Gracie blocks a head kick by Summers.
Gracie swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Summers counters with a left and a right that stings Gracie.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Summers fails to land with a series of punches.
Gracie lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Gracie bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Gracie throws a right and a left that Summers avoids nicely.
Gracie on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Summers. Summers obviously looking to wear him down.
Summers tries to clinch there but Gracie circles away.
Rickson Gracie seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Summers throws a push kick but Gracie slaps the foot to one side.
Gracie scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Summers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gracie's waist but Gracie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Summers off to one side.
Summers misses with a body kick.
Gracie throws a counter combo.
Summers throws a head kick but Gracie moves out of range.
Summers avoids the body shot from Gracie.
A combination from Gracie does no damage.
Summers half committed to a counter leg kick.
Summers on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Gracie. Gracie obviously looking to wear him down.
Summers ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Gracie chips away with some ground and pound.
Kieran Summers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Summers is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Summers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gracie makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Gracie working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Summers's head.
Gracie stands up over Summers, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Gracie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Summers is keeping the position for now.
Gracie stands up over Summers, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Gracie working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Summers's head.
Summers trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Summers is trying to keep Gracie in close.
Summers has momentary wrist control but Gracie slips an elbow through the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rickson Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Summers looks for the body kick but Gracie saw that one coming.
As Summers backs off Gracie throws a huge counter combo but Summers manages to avoid it all.
Summers darts in trying to clinch
and Summers takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Gracie throws a body punch but Summers moves out of range.
Summers blocks a head kick by Gracie.
Summers tries to counter by clinching up but Gracie breaks away and moves out of range.
Summers keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Gracie.
Summers throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Gracie.
Summers does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Summers takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Summers moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Gracie throws a series of punches but Summers moves out of range.
Gracie pushes Summers away with a front kick.
Gracie throws a body shot but no joy.

Summers throws a half hearted mid kick.
Gracie has a takedown stuffed.
Summers fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Gracie is out of range.
Gracie misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Summers.
Summers misses with a head kick.
Summers goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Some wild striking there from Gracie.
Summers misses with an attempted mid kick.
Gracie feints the counter takedown.
Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Summers looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Gracie lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Summers wants to clinch.
Summers attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Gracie misses with a wild combination.
Gracie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Summers manages to avoid it.
Summers blocks a head kick by Gracie.
And Summers counters with a quick kick to the body but Gracie blocks it.
Summers tries to clinch up but Gracie circles away and keeps his distance.
Gracie throws a series of strikes that have Summers backpedaling.
Summers closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Summers.
Gracie misses with the combination.

A head kick misses from Summers.
Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Summers went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Kieran Summers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rickson Gracie.
Summers tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gracie swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gracie throws a body punch but Summers moves out of range.
Summers throws a head kick that misses.
Summers fails with an attempt to clinch.

Rickson Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Summers takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Gracie throws a right and a left that Summers avoids nicely.

Summers has closed the distance and engaged Gracie in a clinch.

Gracie tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Gracie tries to pull guard but Summers won't allow it.
Gracie takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Summers tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Gracie avoids it.
Summers content to slow the pace in the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Summers works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Summers is keeping the position.

Rickson Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
