PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marty Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Jane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marty Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Jane!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peterson misses with a double jab
and Jane cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Peterson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Jane counters with a left and a right that stings Peterson.
Peterson misses with a double jab

and Jane counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jane.
Jane is looking to take this one to the mat.
Jane has had enough of the clinch but Peterson keeps him there for the moment.

Jane breaks from the clinch.
Peterson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Jane counters with a two punch combo.
Peterson misses with a double jab
and Jane counters with a one-two to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Peterson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Peterson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jane smiles and moves away.
No luck for Jane with that takedown attempt.

Jane clinches up with Peterson and pushes him back against the cage.
Peterson is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marty Peterson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jane trying to land knees to the body.
Peterson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jane wants to break the clinch but can't.
Peterson is looking to control Jane's arms but Jane gets an underhook and turns him. Now Peterson has his back to the cage.

Peterson jumps guard but Jane turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jane is trying to trip Peterson. He has hold of a leg but Peterson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jane persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Jane is standing up over Peterson. Peterson looks to escape but Jane dives into side control.

Peterson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Peterson is working hard here to advance position.
The ground and pound from Jane seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
You can see the frustration on Peterson's face as Jane controls the position.

Jane postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Jane decides to stand up, so the ref orders Peterson to his feet.

Jane pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jane has control of Peterson's left arm, preventing Peterson from doing any damage.

Jane is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Peterson defends well.
Jane wants to sweep but no luck.

Peterson wants to get up but he can't break Jane's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Peterson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jane wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jane is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jane is trying to push Peterson away but Peterson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Jane drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Peterson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Jane manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jane seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Peterson throws a left and a right that both miss

and Jane moves into the clinch.

Peterson has Jane pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jane manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Jane has Peterson pressed against the cage, preventing Peterson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Jane has Peterson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jane pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Peterson tumbling to the mat - Jane dives into Peterson's guard.
Tom Jane has got the better of the ground game so far.

Tom Jane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Jane fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Peterson, pushing him back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Jane counters by moving into the clinch.
Peterson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Jane is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Peterson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Jane has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Jane gets control of Peterson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jane will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Jane throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Jane is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Jane escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Peterson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Peterson has gone for a leg lock! Jane slips out almost immediately though and dives into Peterson's guard.

Jane won't allow Peterson to get back to his feet.
Jane works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Jane passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Peterson!
Peterson is wriggling around trying to escape.

Jane jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Peterson manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Jane taking a breather here.

Jane has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jane fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Peterson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jane circles away quickly and effectively.
A punch combination from Peterson misses.
Marty Peterson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tom Jane is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Marty Peterson is winning the standup battle so far.
Peterson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marty Peterson.
I think Jane has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
