Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kyoji Anzai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benny Breese!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Breese is looking to score with low kicks.
The crowd cheers as Breese lands an impressive looking overhand right. Anzai doesn't seem phased though.

Anzai moves into the clinch.
Come on Anzai - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Breese tries to break free but Anzai pushes him back against the cage.

Anzai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Breese tries to clinch there but Anzai circles away.
Anzai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
It looked like Anzai was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
The fight stays on the outside here - Anzai looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Breese blocks a head kick by Anzai.
Breese circles away from the clinch attempt.
Breese scores with a jab. Anzai acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Anzai clinches.

Anzai's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Anzai gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Anzai controls Breese momentarily but Breese frees himself.
Breese trying to control the position from guard on top but Anzai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Anzai wants to get back to his feet but Breese is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Breese wants to stand but Anzai is controlling his posture from full guard.

Breese thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Breese tries to clinch up but Anzai circles away and keeps his distance.

Breese digs a good body shot into Anzai's ribs.
Breese shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Anzai as he avoids it easily.

Breese moves out of range of the body kick from Anzai.
Breese lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Anzai throws a series of punches but Breese avoids them all with ease.
Breese tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Anzai paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Breese manages to break the clinch.
Breese tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Breese misses with a kick to the body.
Anzai defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Breese.
Breese avoids the head kick by Anzai.
Sloppy strikes from Anzai. Those never looked like landing.

Anzai closes the distance and pushes Breese back into the cage.
Breese wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Anzai has him pressed against the cage.
Breese is looking for a takedown.
Kyoji Anzai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Benny Breese.

Anzai wants a takedown but no success here.
Anzai tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A frustrated look appears on Anzai's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Breese prevents Anzai from breaking the clinch.
Anzai creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Breese tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Anzai breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Anzai doesn't manage to clinch there - Breese circles away.
Anzai stuffs the takedown.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Anzai has managed to clinch.

Anzai pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anzai stuffs the takedown.

Anzai clinches up against the cage.

Anzai has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Breese clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Breese wants to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Breese defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Anzai's arms.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Anzai is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Anzai working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Breese's head.
Anzai controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Anzai pushing down on Breese's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Anzai is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Breese can do to turn this around?
Breese makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Breese.
Anzai wants to control from the top but Breese keeps moving.
Anzai advances to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Breese can do anything to dispel that myth.

Anzai not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Anzai tries to pass the half guard into mount. Breese knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Breese is pressing down on Anzai's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Anzai is looking to clinch but Breese is avoiding it.
Breese throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Breese tries to clinch up.
Kyoji Anzai is winning the standup battle so far.

Anzai fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Breese, pushing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyoji Anzai dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Breese changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Anzai tries to avoid it but Breese manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Anzai to the ground. Anzai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Breese rushes Anzai and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Breese escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Breese misses with a kick to the body.

Anzai moves into range and clinches up with Breese.
Anzai tries to pull guard but Breese forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Anzai lands with a short shot to the head.

A nice right hand lands inside from Anzai.

Anzai tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Breese just stands there and leans against the cage.
Breese pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Anzai tries to pull guard but Breese holds him up against the cage and eventually Anzai drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyoji Anzai. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Breese is trying to drag Anzai to the mat but Anzai just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Breese fails with the takedown
and Anzai counters with a series of strikes. Breese will be more careful next time no doubt.

Anzai managing to block the knees to the body from Breese.
Anzai tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Breese's elbow.
Anzai jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Breese walks away with a smile on his face. Anzai gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Breese goes for a takedown in the clinch but Anzai prevents it.

Anzai manages to break the clinch.

Breese throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Anzai was covering up waiting for the punch and Breese finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Breese chips away with some ground and pound.
Benny Breese has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kyoji Anzai is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kyoji Anzai showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Anzai, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
