Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Felipe Cirkunov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Northcutt!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Northcutt does no damage.
Cirkunov stuffs the takedown attempt from Northcutt. Northcutt gets slowly back to his feet.
Cirkunov throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Cirkunov closes the distance and clinches.
Northcutt on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Northcutt drags the fight down to the ground.
Cirkunov content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Northcutt keeping moving, preventing Cirkunov from controlling successfully.
Northcutt is looking to stand up but Cirkunov isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cirkunov is fighting to break Northcutt's control of his arms but Northcutt is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Cirkunov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cirkunov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cirkunov fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Northcutt displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cirkunov.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cirkunov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Northcutt can do anything to dispel that myth.
Northcutt gets back to half guard.
Northcutt trying to control here.
Northcutt gets full guard.
Cirkunov content to stall in guard here.
Cirkunov wants to stand but Northcutt has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Cirkunov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cirkunov trying to control the position from guard on top but Northcutt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cirkunov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Cirkunov throws a big right hand that misses.
Northcutt has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Northcutt is trying to control the position but Cirkunov postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Felipe Cirkunov will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Northcutt circles away from the clinch attempt.
Northcutt misses with a head kick.

Cirkunov rushes Northcutt and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Northcutt drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Northcutt has picked Cirkunov up - he's going for a ride! Northcutt dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Cirkunov trying to hold on to Northcutt's head to control him but Northcutt postures up.
Cirkunov wants to improve his position but Northcutt is controlling well.

Cirkunov wants to control but Northcutt passes into side.
Northcutt lands an elbow.

Northcutt has hold of Cirkunov's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Cirkunov seems comfortable defending it but Northcutt has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Cirkunov is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Cirkunov is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Northcutt couldn't care less - he's delighted!
