Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Friel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seto Takiama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Seto Takiama will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Friel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Seto Takiama!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Friel darts in and clinches Takiama up against the cage.
Friel throws a knee to the head but misses.
Friel stalling against the cage.

Friel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Friel misses with a wild combination.
And Takiama tries to counter it with a takedown but Friel pushes his down on his head and steps out.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Friel.
Takiama has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Friel is landing a low percentage of strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Friel looking to land some kicks to the body here.
A little jabbing left from Takiama on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Friel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

It looks like Seto Takiama has been cut.

Friel gets caught flat footed, as Takiama shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Friel is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Takiama presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Friel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Friel shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Takiama is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Friel shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Friel tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Takiama manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Takiama counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Friel thinking.

Johnny Friel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Friel leaves Takiama with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Friel tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Takiama manages to circle out of the way.

Takiama closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Friel did well to prevent Takiama getting side control.

Friel lands a jab-cross combination.
Friel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Takiama defends it nicely.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Friel feints a jab promting Takiama to slip. Friel then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Takiama slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Friel doesn't manage to clinch there - Takiama circles away.

Friel tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Takiama manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Takiama drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Friel defends it well.
Takiama fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Friel avoids it really well and circles away.

Friel doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Takiama counter with a right hand.
Friel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Takiama sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A nice side step and Takiama releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Friel tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Takiama defends well and Friel ends up having to push Takiama into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Takiama tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Takiama counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Friel wants to stand and escape but Takiama is having none of it.
Seto Takiama has got the better of the ground game so far.

Friel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Takiama thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Takiama wanted to stand there but Friel had control of the position.

Takiama postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Friel is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Takiama, into his guard.


Friel decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Friel throws a series of punches but Takiama moves out of range.

Takiama shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Friel pushes Takiama off and scrambles back to his feet.
Takiama keeps the fight on the outside.

Friel closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Takiama is trying to pull guard but Friel has him pressed against the cage.
Friel tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Takiama smiles and moves away.

and Friel counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Friel is trying to drag Takiama to the mat but Takiama just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Takiama closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Friel wants to get back to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Takiama is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Takiama looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Takiama tries to control but Friel wriggling away.
Takiama unloads with some shots from mount but Friel bucks and avoids them well.
Takiama throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Takiama is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Friel has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Takiama avoids the attempt from Friel to control.
Friel is working to get back to half guard.

Takiama jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Friel is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Friel and Takiama has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Takiama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Friel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Takiama tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Takiama misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Takiama swings around for an armbar but Friel sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Takiama's guard.

Seto Takiama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Johnny Friel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Takiama has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Friel should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Takiama has tightened it up now! Friel should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
