PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Don Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Szandor Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Storm has chosen Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Szandor Storm!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Roberts and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Storm gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Stewart controls from within his opponent's guard.

Storm had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stewart defends it easily.
We've been hearing good reports from Stewart's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Stewart is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Storm throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Stewart escapes and throws Storm's legs to the side, diving into side control!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stewart seems keen to control Storm's posture.

Storm gets to his feet - Stewart follows without any prompting.
Stewart connects with a body shot.
Stewart shoots in and drives through. Storm sprawls well.

Storm shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stewart manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Storm would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Stewart is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Stewart manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Storm manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Storm is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stewart lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Storm down.
Storm tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Stewart wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Stewart wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Storm, who protects the arm well.

Stewart tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stewart has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Storm takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Storm is looking for a sweep.
Storm is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Stewart cracks Storm with a big right hand but Storm just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Stewart is looking to take a break and control but Storm is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Stewart scores with a couple of short elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Stewart dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Stewart throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Storm's waist but Storm gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stewart off to one side.
Storm defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Stewart.
Don Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stewart moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Storm closes the distance and clinches up with Stewart, looking for a takedown. Storm pushes Stewart against the cage but Stewart circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Stewart scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Don Stewart overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Stewart is controlling the pace.

Stewart seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Storm does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stewart tries to pass the half guard into mount. Storm knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Stewart is nestled in close to Storm, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Storm is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Stewart pulls his head out easily.

Stewart maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Storm could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Stewart has cracked it and Storm is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Stewart!
