Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Jawo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Taslim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Taslim is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: La Coka Nostra - . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Taslim!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jawo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jawo showed some decent athleticism there.

Taslim makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Jawo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jawo has his foot on Taslim's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Taslim works his way back into a safe position though.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Taslim accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jawo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Taslim defends well.

Taslim got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jawo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Taslim has managed to get both his arms back between Jawo's legs - danger averted.

Jawo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Taslim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Taslim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jawo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Taslim is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jawo.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Taslim working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jawo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Taslim can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jawo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Taslim stacks Jawo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Taslim!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jawo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Taslim defends well and Jawo ends up having to push Taslim into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
