PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Leon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Funny Bunny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jackson Leon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Funny Bunny!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Leon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Leon closes the distance and clinches up with Bunny, looking for a takedown. Leon pushes Bunny against the cage but Bunny circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Leon looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Bunny!
Bunny struggling a bit here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leon with the ground and pound but Bunny regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bunny manages to get to full guard.

Bunny controlling the position.

Bunny uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Leon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bunny drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Leon defends it well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jackson Leon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Leon feints and as Bunny raises his hands in defense, Leon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bunny is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Leon is controlling him.

Leon drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bunny looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bunny looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bunny!

Leon avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bunny.
Leon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Leon is trying to escape the position but Bunny is controlling the position.
Bunny tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
You can see the frustration on Leon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Bunny wants to control but Leon is keeping him busy.

Bunny wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Leon, who protects the arm well.

Bunny looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Leon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Bunny tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bunny controls the position.
Bunny wants to control but Leon is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Leon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Bunny in side control, throwing shots but Leon defends.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Leon wants to control but Bunny postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Leon tries for a takedown but Bunny sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bunny tries to counter by closing the distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Funny Bunny dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Leon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bunny tries to avoid it but Leon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bunny to the ground. Bunny escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Bunny counters with a three punch combo that has Leon backing up. Leon nods at Bunny to acknowledge the strikes.

Leon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bunny pinned against the cage. Bunny gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Bunny stuffs the takedown attempt from Leon. Leon gets slowly back to his feet.
As Leon backs off Bunny throws a huge counter combo but Leon manages to avoid it all.
Leon closes the distance looking to clinch
and Bunny counters with a series of strikes. Leon will be more careful next time no doubt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Leon closes the distance and clinches up with Bunny, looking for a takedown. Leon pushes Bunny against the cage but Bunny circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bunny wants to counter the offense by Leon and move into the clinch position.
Leon looks to clinch
and Bunny counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Leon.
Bunny lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Leon fails with the takedown
and Bunny counters with a left and a right that stings Leon.

Leon shoots in but no luck this time.
Bunny feints the counter takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Leon fails to land the takedown.
Bunny tries to counter by closing the distance.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Leon has his takedown stuffed

and Bunny counters by moving into the clinch.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Leon prevents a takedown attempt there.
Bunny tries for a takedown but Leon manages to get underhooks.
Bunny wants a takedown but no success here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bunny has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Leon after a bit of a struggle.
Leon can't break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Funny Bunny showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Leon fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bunny avoids it really well and circles away.

Leon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bunny's waist but Bunny gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Leon off to one side.
Leon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bunny sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Leon somewhat.
Bunny wants to counter with a clinch but Leon pushes him away.

Bunny manages to get back to half guard.
Bunny moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Leon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Bunny is adopting a defensive guard.

Bunny wants to sweep but no luck.
Bunny is pulling down on Leon's head. It's preventing any offense from Leon, at least for the moment.
Bunny utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bunny wants to improve his position but instead Leon has moved into half guard.

Leon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Leon is looking for a kimura here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Leon is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bunny is concentrating on defense, preventing Leon from advancing position.

Funny Bunny comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bunny has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
