PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Freitag (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Antonio Atunes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freitag comes to the cage accompanied by Limp Bizkit - Break stuff. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlos Antonio Atunes!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Atunes scores with a nice head shot.
Atunes scoring well with a low kick there.
Freitag ducks right into an uppercut from Atunes.
Nice jab there from Atunes.
Freitag throws a jab when Atunes was well out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Atunes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Atunes scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Freitag doesn't seem bothered though.
Atunes lands with an overhand left.
Freitag keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Freitag appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Freitag.
Freitag throws a shot from downtown. Atunes moves away and avoids it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Freitag throws the left hand but Atunes avoids the punch easily.
Atunes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Atunes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Freitag gets the takedown into side control.
Atunes defending against the ground and pound.
Freitag creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Atunes felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Freitag sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Atunes is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Freitag goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Atunes rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Freitag's guard! Nice work there by Atunes!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Atunes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Freitag looking to control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Freitag wants to sweep but no luck.

Freitag working a defensive guard here.
Freitag being controlled here, momentarily.
Freitag wants to hit a switch here but Atunes passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Freitag there!
Freitag is in all sorts of trouble here.

Atunes controlling the pace for now.
Freitag tries to lock up and control but Atunes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Atunes looking to control and managing it successfully.
Freitag is trying desperately to improve position.
Atunes controlling from mount.
Freitag slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Antonio Atunes dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Atunes's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Atunes duly obliges.
Atunes paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Freitag takes one on the button.
Atunes feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Freitags jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Atunes dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Freitag looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Freitag tries to score a power double leg takedown but Atunes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Freitag somewhat.
Atunes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Atunes changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A cross from Atunes lands.
No luck for Freitag with that takedown attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Atunes scores with the left hand. Freitag knows he should have avoided that one.
Carlos Antonio Atunes seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Atunes connects with a good right hand that stumbles Freitag. Freitag circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Freitag is rocked!

It looks like Mike Freitag has been cut.
Atunes lands with a big right hook that stumbles Freitag - he's out on his feet here! Atunes follows up with another monster hook that separates Freitag from consciousness! Freitag falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Atunes stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Mike Freitag was interviewed post fight and said 'Losing a fight sucks hard, but... I´ll be back stronger for sure! '.
