PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Tankey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wildemeer Washington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Wildemeer Washington was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Thomas Tankey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wildemeer Washington!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Washington feints and then cracks Tankey's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Tankey down.
No joy there for Washington, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Washington throws a right and a left that both miss.
Washington swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Washington tries to land a leg kick but Tankey saw it coming and moves away.
Tankey checks a leg kick nicely.
Tankey connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Washington throws a leg kick but Tankey checks it.
Tankey shoots in but Washington avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Tankey looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Washington rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tankey moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tankey misses with a double jab.

Tankey shoots in and bounces Washington off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Washington manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

It looks like Wildemeer Washington has been cut.

Washington escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tankey tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Washington defends well and Tankey ends up having to push Washington into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Washington unleashes a big counter combination but Tankey bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Tankey shoots in looking for a takedown but Washington manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tankey's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Tankey. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Washington drops Tankey with a nice combination! Washington dives into Tankey's guard, looking to finish!


Tankey is rocked!
Tankey looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Washington is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Washington postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Washington is in close to Tankey's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Washington gets to his feet. Tankey looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tankey shoots for a double leg takedown but Washington sprawls well. He's pushed Tankey's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Washington unleashes a big counter combination but Tankey bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

A jab-cross combination lands for Washington and sends Tankey crashing to the mat! Washington follows him down to the mat - Tankey regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!
Oh Tankey is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Tankey trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Washington manages to pass to mount!
Tankey is breathing heavily.
Washington lands with some strikes.
Tankey is bucking up trying to escape but Washington cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Tankey seems to have got his legs back now.
Washington controlling from the full mount.
It looks like Washington might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Tankey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Washington on the ground.
Tankey wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Washington postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Tankey looks a forlorn figure.

Washington takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Washington's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Washington is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Tankey can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Tankey is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Washington takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Tankey looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Washington lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Washington throws a leg kick that misses.
Tankey looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Washington is fending him off so far but Tankey persists. Nope, Washington circles away and we're back to standing.
Wildemeer Washington seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Washington misses with a takedown attempt - Tankey sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Tankey wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Tankey gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Washington.
Wildemeer Washington seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tankey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tankey backs away from a small jab... but Washington lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Tankey crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Washington with a spectacular finish!
