PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kory Holman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Mayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kory Holman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sam Mayer!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mayer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Holman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mayer connects with a solid leg kick.
Sam Mayer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mayer drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Holman taking a bit of punishment here - Mayer scoring with strikes.
Holman regains half guard, as Mayer was trying to land strikes.
Still in half guard, Mayer seems content to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mayer is looking to advance position but Holman won't allow it.
Mayer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Holman wants to get back to full guard.

Mayer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mayer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Holman pulls Mayer in to control the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Holman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Mayer clinches up against the cage.
Holman tries to pull guard but Mayer holds him up against the cage and eventually Holman drops back down to his feet.

Mayer has Holman pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mayer pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Holman tumbling to the mat - Mayer dives into Holman's guard.
Holman has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mayer throws a strike but Holman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Mayer is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holman controls from within his opponent's guard.

Holman throws an elbow that misses. Mayer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Holman's guard. Nice move by Mayer!

Holman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mayer controls the pace.

Holman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mayer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Holman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Holman wants to get back to his feet but Mayer is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mayer loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Holman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A nice inside leg kick there by Mayer. That's going to slow Holman down.
Mayer dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Holman. That did some damage!

Mayer forces Holman back against the cage and clinches.
Mayer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Holman forces Mayer back against the cage and clinches.
Holman tries to work over Mayer's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Mayer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Holman is looking to counter the offense by Mayer and move into the clinch.

Mayer has Holman up against the cage in a clinch.

Mayer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mayer.
The ground and pound from Mayer seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Holman is looking for a sweep.

Mayer postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Mayer throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Holman works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Mayer is trying to control. Holman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Sam Mayer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Holman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mayer walks away with a smile on his face. Holman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Holman is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mayer to keep the fight standing.

Holman looking to sit in guard and control but Mayer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mayer drops back, looking for a kneebar! Holman looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Holman looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Holman!


Holman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mayer has clasped his hands together around Holman's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Mayer is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Holman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mayer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Holman is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mayer's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

I would just about give that final round to Sam Mayer.
Well Mayer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
