Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doyle Brunson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitaly Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karelin has chosen Russian National Anthem as his entrance music. Vitaly Karelin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Doyle Brunson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Vitaly Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Brunson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at London MMA Club in the buildup to the fight.

and Brunson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Vitaly Karelin has been cut.
The fighters circle momentarily. Karelin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Brunson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Karelin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Brunson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Karelin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Brunson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Karelin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Brunson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Brunson tests Karelin's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Karelin avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Karelin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Brunson's guard.
Brunson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Brunson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Brunson tries to get out of the position.
Karelin postures up in Brunson's guard and throws a big left but Brunson blocks it.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Karelin working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Brunson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Karelin wants the takedown. Brunson is fighting it off but Karelin persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Brunson's guard against the cage.

Brunson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Karelin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Karelin lands a nice short elbow.
Brunson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karelin on the ground.

Karelin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Brunson's guard.
