PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Felix Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DJ Shaw will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Felix Edwards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, DJ Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Edwards dives in and grabs Shaw's left leg, looking for a takedown. Shaw pushes down on Edwards's head and hops out.
And Shaw tries to counter it with a takedown but Edwards pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Shaw tries to land a front kick but Edwards steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Shaw moves out of range as Edwards throws a body kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Edwards shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shaw is trying to defend but Edwards finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Shaw is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Shaw is trying to stand up here but Edwards is controlling him well.

Shaw is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Edwards scores with a couple of nice shots.
Shaw pushes Edwards off looking to stand but Edwards dives back in and keeps control.

Edwards shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shaw pinned against the cage. Shaw gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Shaw tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Shaw throws a head kick but Edwards moves out of range.
Edwards wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Edwards tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shaw swivels and escapes.
Shaw throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Edwards fires out a quick counter leg kick but Shaw just manages to avoid it.

Shaw looks to land a combination but Edwards avoids it well.
Shaw pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shaw is breathing heavily.
Shaw misses with a double jab

and Edwards moves into the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Shaw.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Edwards lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Edwards tries to land knees in the clinch but Shaw avoids the damage to the body.

Shaw avoids a wild elbow strike from Edwards.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Felix Edwards.

Shaw gets caught flat footed, as Edwards shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Shaw is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Edwards dives into side control.

Edwards thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Edwards shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shaw as he avoids it easily.
Edwards darts in looking for a takedown but Shaw gets double underhooks and turns Edwards into the cage.
As Edwards backs off Shaw throws a huge counter combo but Edwards manages to avoid it all.
Shaw misses with a double jab.
Edwards dodges the punch combination from Shaw.

Shaw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Edwards blocks a head kick by Shaw.
Edwards tries to counter by clinching up but Shaw breaks away and moves out of range.
Shaw goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Edwards shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shaw sprawls well. Shaw wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Edwards gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Felix Edwards. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Edwards shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shaw as he jumps to the side.
Shaw wants to slow Edwards down by chopping away at his legs.

Felix Edwards is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Edwards is working for a kimura but Shaw is defending it quite comfortably.

DJ Shaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Edwards has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
