PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ceasar Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morgan has chosen Fat Lip as his entrance music. Bruce Armstrong is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Bruce Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ceasar Morgan!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armstrong drives through and clinches with Morgan against the cage.
Armstrong doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Armstrong successfully pulls guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Morgan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Armstrong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Morgan passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Morgan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Armstrong regains half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Armstrong taking some punishment here, with Morgan in his half guard.
Armstrong has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Morgan moves nicely into side control.

Morgan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Armstrong has escaped the position, nice work there.

Morgan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Armstrong knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Morgan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
You can see the frustration on Armstrong's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Armstrong sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Armstrong is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Armstrong is pressing down on Morgan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Armstrong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Morgan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Morgan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Armstrong is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Morgan's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Armstrong is staying active underneath Morgan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Morgan is pressing down on Armstrong's thigh, looking to free his foot. Armstrong is holding on for now.

Morgan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Armstrong gets back to full guard.

Armstrong controls Morgan momentarily but Morgan frees himself.

Armstrong has his foot on Morgan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Morgan works his way back into a safe position though.

Armstrong is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Morgan is aware though and is defending well.
Armstrong looking to hit a scissor sweep but Morgan is one step ahead there.
Armstrong will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Morgan wants to control from the top but Armstrong keeps moving.

Armstrong looking for a guillotine here but Morgan defends easily.
Morgan trying to control but Armstrong is working from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Armstrong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Morgan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Armstrong is trying to keep Morgan in close.
Morgan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Armstrong is keeping the position for now.
Morgan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Armstrong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morgan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bruce Armstrong will probably get the nod.

Armstrong rushes Morgan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Armstrong.

Morgan drags the fight down to the ground.
Morgan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Armstrong is looking to improve his position.
Armstrong moves into full guard.
Armstrong preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Armstrong lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Morgan punching from the bottom - just letting Armstrong know he's still in a fight.
Armstrong is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Morgan keeping full guard, as Armstrong tries to pass.
Armstrong postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Morgan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Morgan lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Morgan is staying tight to Armstrong's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Morgan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Morgan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Morgan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Armstrong keeps working.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bruce Armstrong will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Armstrong has Morgan up against the cage in a clinch.
Morgan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Armstrong pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Armstrong lands a shoulder strike.

Armstrong jumps into guard, dragging Morgan to the mat.
My spies in Death Valley Training Facility inform me that Morgan has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Ceasar Morgan has got the better of the ground game so far.

Armstrong throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Morgan escapes and throws Armstrong's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Morgan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Armstrong is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Armstrong is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Morgan's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Morgan is looking for a kimura but Armstrong is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Morgan to get the leverage.
Armstrong is looking to control Morgan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Armstrong avoid being mounted?

Morgan has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Armstrong defend it? Morgan steps over the head and cranks it - Armstrong is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Morgan!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ceasar Morgan!
