PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Neil Gilas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ondrej Rigo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gilas's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Remember The Name - Fort Minor. Ondrej Rigo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Neil Gilas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Ondrej Rigo!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gilas misses with a low kick.
Rigo tries to counter with a clinch but Gilas shakes him off and moves away.
Gilas scores with a jab to the jaw.
A slapping body kick lands there for Gilas.
Gilas bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Rigo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gilas's waist but Gilas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rigo off to one side.
Gilas lands a jab to the head.
Gilas displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rigo.
Rigo throws a hook to the side of Gilas's head but Gilas sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gilas lands an overhand right.
Gilas throws a sloppy head kick and Rigo moves out of range easily.
Rigo is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Rigo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gilas circles away.
Neil Gilas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ondrej Rigo.
Gilas misses the jab.
Rigo shoots in for a takedown but Gilas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Rigo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Gilas stuffs the takedown.
Gilas bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Rigo's head.
A nice leg kick lands there from Gilas.
Gilas throws an overhand right that lands on Rigo's shoulder, as Rigo tries to avoid the shot.
Rigo slips under a jab from Gilas.
A swing and a miss from Gilas.
Rigo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gilas as he jumps to the side.
Rigo throws a leg kick but Gilas sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Rigo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gilas tries to avoid it but Rigo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gilas to the ground. Gilas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rigo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Rigo with the counter takedown but Gilas avoids it easily.
Gilas throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Gilas lands with a right hand.
Gilas misses with a leg kick

and Rigo counters with a takedown into side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rigo passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Gilas!
Rigo wants to take Gilas's back here but Gilas is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Gilas is squirming around, avoiding Rigo's attempts to control the action.
Gilas is trying desperately to improve position.
Rigo tries to control but Gilas wriggling away.
Rigo throws some wild stikes that Gilas manages to avoid easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gilas tries to reverse the position but Rigo maintains control.
Gilas tries to hold on but Rigo pushes him away.

Rigo working for a submission but Gilas is keeping him at bay.
Rigo tries to control but Gilas wriggling away.
Gilas tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gilas is squirming around, avoiding Rigo's attempts to control the action.

Rigo wants to control the action but instead Gilas gets a body lock and reverses into Rigo's guard! Nice work!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gilas postures up.
Rigo has momentary wrist control but Gilas slips an elbow through the middle.
Gilas wants to control from the top but Rigo keeps moving.
Gilas lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Rigo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gilas has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gilas makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neil Gilas dominated that round.
That's time! Gilas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rigo looks for a takedown but Gilas sprawls well.
Gilas slips under a jab from Rigo.
Gilas feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rigo's calf.
Gilas lands with an uppercut that bounces Rigo off the cage and back into range.
Gilas throws a chopping leg kick but Rigo manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Gilas stuffs the takedown.
Gilas uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rigo has time to react.
Gilas throws a low kick but Rigo moves out of range easily.
Rigo shoots in looking for a takedown but Gilas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rigo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rigo stands and throws Gilas's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gilas parries the strikes from Rigo easily there. Rigo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gilas to escape.

Rigo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gilas, who protects the arm well.
Rigo content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Gilas is looking for a sweep.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gilas is working hard here to advance position.
Rigo trying to control the position but Gilas is working away.
Rigo advances to full mount.
Gilas wants to control but Rigo is having none of it.
Gilas bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Rigo wants to sweep but no luck.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rigo is on top in guard.

Rigo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

A close second round but Ondrej Rigo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Gilas uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rigo.
Gilas was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Rigo dives in and grabs Gilas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gilas pushes down on Rigo's head and hops out.

Rigo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Rigo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gilas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rigo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gilas manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Rigo wants to get back to full guard.
Gilas is trying to control the action in half guard but Rigo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Rigo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
We've been hearing that Gilas has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Rigo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gilas manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gilas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rigo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gilas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gilas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rigo can do to turn this around?
Gilas is pulling down on Rigo's head. It's preventing any offense from Rigo, at least for the moment.

Ondrej Rigo has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rigo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rigo wants to control but Gilas is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rigo remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Rigo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gilas has escaped the position, nice work there.
Gilas tries to buck Rigo off but Rigo is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rigo tries to move to mount but Gilas blocks the move with his legs.
You can see the frustration on Gilas's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gilas tries to bench press Rigo off him but Rigo keeps the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gilas wants to control but Rigo postures up.

Rigo tries for a kimura but Gilas is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Neil Gilas.
I think Gilas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
