PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carrol Randolph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Appleton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Carlos Appleton was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carrol Randolph!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carlos Appleton!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randolph checks a leg kick.
Randolph goes for a double leg but Appleton avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Appleton continues to drive forward.
Appleton goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Appleton lands with a nice combination. Randolph backs away looking to recover.
Appleton digs a good body shot into Randolph's ribs.
Appleton closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Appleton closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Randolph to the mat! Randolph manages to get full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Appleton prevents Randolph from getting back to his feet.
Appleton tries to free his leg and advance position but Randolph is retaining full guard.
Appleton throws a big elbow that misses.

Appleton decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Randolph misses with a takedown
and Appleton counters with a two punch combo.

Appleton gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Appleton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Randolph looks for a takedown but Appleton sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carrol Randolph. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Randolph dives in and grabs Appleton's left leg, looking for a takedown. Appleton pushes down on Randolph's head and hops out.
Carlos Appleton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Randolph or perhaps it was just good defense by Appleton, which made it look bad.

Appleton drives through and clinches with Randolph against the cage.

Appleton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Appleton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Randolph has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Appleton controls from within his opponent's guard.

Randolph has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Appleton is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Appleton gets underhooks to prevent Randolph's takedown attempt.

Appleton manages to break the clinch.
Some wild striking there from Appleton.

Appleton shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Appleton is taking a breather. Randolph says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Randolph is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Appleton dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Danga de danga de dang - Appleton scores with a four punch combination!
Appleton swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Randolph.

Appleton looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Randolph!

Randolph bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Appleton takes the fight into the clinch.

Appleton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Appleton gets a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Appleton manages to break the clinch.
Appleton throws a right and a left that Randolph avoids nicely.
Randolph checks the leg kick.
A right-left combo lands from Appleton.

Randolph closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Appleton's guard.

Appleton scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Appleton clinches with his opponent.

Appleton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Appleton misses with a wild combination.
Randolph wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Appleton goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


Randolph is rocked!
Appleton cracks Randolph with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Randolph falls to his knees and Appleton doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carlos Appleton!
