Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darrell Stephenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brock Newman has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darrell Stephenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brock Newman!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stephenson darts in looking for a takedown but Newman gets double underhooks and turns Stephenson into the cage.
Newman looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Newman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stephenson is trying to defend but Newman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Stephenson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Newman in particular looking to stall.

Newman is looking for a kimura but Stephenson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Newman to get the leverage.

That was a close round but I would say that Darrell Stephenson will probably get the nod.

Horrible takedown attempt by Stephenson or perhaps it was just good defense by Newman, which made it look bad.

Newman has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Stephenson is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Newman looks to land a combination. Stephenson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Brock Newman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Newman dives in and grabs Stephenson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stephenson pushes down on Newman's head and hops out.

Newman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stephenson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Brock Newman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Newman. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Stephenson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Newman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Newman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Newman connects with a leg kick. Stephenson looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Newman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stephenson was covering up waiting for the punch and Newman finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Darrell Stephenson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Newman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Stephenson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Stephenson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Newman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stephenson has managed to get both his arms back between Newman's legs - danger averted.
