PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nyffe Pehmytkudos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Howard Stern (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pehmytkudos comes into the arena with Culture Club - Do You Really Want To Hurt Me blaring out of the sound system. Stern has chosen The Great American Nightmare as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nyffe Pehmytkudos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Howard Stern!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stern tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pehmytkudos swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pehmytkudos half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Stern lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Stern.
Stern misses with a body shot
and Pehmytkudos counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Stern throws a leg kick that is checked
and Pehmytkudos counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Stern shoots and misses
and Pehmytkudos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Stern jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Pehmytkudos feinted with a counter takedown.

Stern gets the takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stern trying to control the action but Pehmytkudos is working from the bottom.
Pehmytkudos manages to work his way to half guard, despite Stern's best efforts.
Stern works his way into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stern tries for a kimura but Pehmytkudos is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pehmytkudos is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Stern asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Pehmytkudos throws Stern to one side and escapes!
Stern fails to land the takedown.
Stern has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Pehmytkudos takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Stern throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Pehmytkudos attempts a counter takedown but Stern avoids it well and moves away.
Stern lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pehmytkudos circles away quickly and effectively.
Pehmytkudos circles away from the clinch attempt.
It looked like Pehmytkudos was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Stern.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stern misses with a two punch combination.
Pehmytkudos attempts a counter takedown but Stern avoids it well and moves away.
Stern throws a sloppy head kick

and Pehmytkudos counters with a shoot takedown. Stern fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pehmytkudos wants to stand but Stern is controlling his posture from full guard.
Pehmytkudos has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Stern bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pehmytkudos's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stern wants to pass the guard but Pehmytkudos is keeping the position.
Stern wants to control from the top but Pehmytkudos keeps moving.
Pehmytkudos wants to stand but Stern is controlling the position.

Pehmytkudos is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stern is aware though and is defending well.
Stern advances position into side control!

Stern tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Stern has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Pehmytkudos keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stern wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stern can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pehmytkudos is looking to escape.
Pehmytkudos tries to hold on but Stern postures up.
Stern won't let Pehmytkudos get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Stern trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Stern avoids the attempt from Pehmytkudos to control.

Stern working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Pehmytkudos looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Stern! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Howard Stern!
