PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jake Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Invalid Ism (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ism has chosen EMO Girl Obsessed With Japan Singing - FAIL as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Robertson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Invalid Ism!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Robertson gets a clinch.
Robertson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Ism successfully pulls guard.
Robertson trying to control but Ism is working from the bottom.
Robertson content to stall in guard here.

Ism is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ism can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Robertson controls the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Robertson wants to stand but Ism is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ism keeping moving, preventing Robertson from controlling successfully.
Robertson sitting in guard, not really doing much.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ism managing to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Robertson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Ism punching from the bottom.
Robertson trying to mount his opponent but Ism defends it.
Ism misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Robertson is thwarting Ism's attempts to control the position.

Robertson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ism is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ism desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Ism is looking to escape.
Robertson is controlling the pace.
Robertson is thwarting Ism's attempts to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Robertson throws a sloppy head kick and Ism moves out of range easily.
Despite the aggression on Ism's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Robertson buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Robertson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Robertson tries to clinch up.
Ism tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Robertson misses with a series of wild punches.
Ism feints the counter takedown.
Ism throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ism shoots in looking for a takedown. Robertson tries to sprawl out of it but Ism keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Robertson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Robertson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ism napping and manages to drive through into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Robertson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Robertson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Robertson avoids the head kick by Ism.

Ism drives through and clinches with Robertson against the cage.
Ism jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Robertson walks away with a smile on his face. Ism gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Robertson counters with a lovely shot to the body.

and Robertson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Jake Robertson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Invalid Ism.
Robertson is controlling the pace.
Ism has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Robertson is working away from the top position though.
Robertson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ism is breathing heavily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Robertson is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Robertson prevents Ism from improving his position.
Jake Robertson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Robertson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ism manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Robertson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ism utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Robertson stays in close to Ism's body and controls the position.
Robertson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ism for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ism closes this distance looking for a takedown but Robertson circles away.
Robertson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ism can do to turn this around?
Ism throws a push kick but Robertson slaps the foot to one side.
Ism changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Robertson tries to avoid it but Ism manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Robertson to the ground. Robertson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No joy there for Ism, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Robertson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Robertson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Robertson gets to his feet - Ism follows without any prompting.
Ism closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.


Ism is rocked!

Robertson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ism is still in real trouble! Can Robertson finish him?
Robertson slows the pace down in half guard.
Robertson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Well, if Robertson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Ism is defending against the submission attempts here by Robertson.
Robertson is nestled in close to Ism, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Robertson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Robertson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Ism tries to get to full guard but Robertson has control of the leg.
Ism is trying to maintain the position but Robertson is very close to passing his half guard.
Robertson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Robertson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ism with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Robertson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Robertson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Ism breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Robertson clobbers Ism with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
A head kick misses from Robertson.
Ism is looking to clinch but Robertson is avoiding it.
Robertson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ism tries to avoid it but Robertson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ism to the ground. Ism escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ism dives in for a single leg takedown but Robertson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Robertson lets loose with a powerful body kick. Ism will feel that in the morning.

Robertson tries to pull guard but Ism holds him up against the cage and eventually Robertson drops back down to his feet.
Come on Ism - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Ism seems to have recovered his senses.

Robertson jumps guard.
Robertson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Robertson wants to sweep but no luck.
Ism is fighting to break Robertson's control of his arms but Robertson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Robertson has his foot on Ism's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ism works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ism trying to control the position from guard on top but Robertson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Robertson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ism slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Ism pushes Robertson up against the cage in a clinch.

Ism turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Ism working away.
Ism wants to stand but Robertson is controlling his arm.
Robertson is trying to control Ism's posture but Ism avoids it.
Robertson throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Ism trying to control the position but Robertson is working away.
Robertson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ism off and has taken his back!
Ism rolls, trying to escape but Robertson keeps control of the position.
Robertson lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Ism.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Robertson has the hooks in. Ism is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Robertson working for a choke but Ism is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Robertson just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Jake Robertson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Robertson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
