PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joel Armia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alen Zalac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armia kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Evanescence - My Last Breath. Zalac has chosen Survival - Eminem as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joel Armia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alen Zalac!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zalac bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Armia sneaks out the side door and pushes Zalac away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Zalac fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Armia, pushing him back against the cage.
Armia is working for takedown but Zalac is calmly controlling the position for now.
Armia has Zalac pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Zalac manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Armia is trying to drag Zalac to the mat but Zalac just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joel Armia. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Armia's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Zalac shoots for a double leg takedown but Armia sprawls well. He's pushed Zalac's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Armia throws a body shot but no joy.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Armia thows a huge punch but Zalac dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zalac really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Armia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Armia has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Armia's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Armia lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Armia lands a couple of good shots and Zalac has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Armia slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Armia is taking a breather. Zalac says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zalac is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Armia pulls his head out easily.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zalac can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Armia, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
