PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Bentner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zane Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bentner comes to the cage accompanied by My Dick. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Bentner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zane Mason!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The crowd cheers as Bentner lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mason doesn't seem phased though.

Mason clinches up with Bentner and pushes him back against the cage.
We've been hearing reports that Bentner has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Bentner can't get the takedown.
Mason lands a hook to the side of the head.
Bentner is trying to drag Mason to the mat but Mason just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Mason escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd cheers as Mason lands an impressive looking overhand right. Bentner doesn't seem phased though.

Bentner shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bentner showed some decent athleticism there.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bentner wants to control but Mason is keeping him busy.
Mason makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mason.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bentner throws an elbow that misses. Mason uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bentner's guard. Nice move by Mason!

Bentner wants to sweep here but Mason controlling him for the moment.
Mason is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Mason must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bentner manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mason manages to get himself to full guard.

Bentner wants to pass the guard but Mason is keeping the position.

Bentner drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mason dives on top into guard.

Bentner is pulling down on Mason's head. It's preventing any offense from Mason, at least for the moment.

Mason stays in close to Bentner's body and controls the position.
Mason's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Bentner controls Mason momentarily but Mason frees himself.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bentner is trying to control the position but Mason postures up.
Mason controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Bentner throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Mason only half commits to the counter leg kick.
That kick from Mason tenderised Bentner's leg. Bentner is trying to keep his angry face on.
Mason is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bentner.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mason slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Bentner shoots in looking for a takedown but Mason manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bentner's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Bentner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Bentner counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Zane Mason will probably get the nod.

Mason throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bentner appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Bentner has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mason.
Bentner tests Mason's chin there with a solid looking shot.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Bentner moves into the clinch successfully.

Mason is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bentner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bentner's back!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mason is riding his opponent, not letting Bentner buck him off.

You can see the frustration on Bentner's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mason doesn't have the hooks in and Bentner manages to turn into his guard.
Bentner throws a strike but Mason rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Bentner staying out of range there.
Bentner tries to counter with a takedown but Mason is quick to defend against it.
The fighters circle momentarily. Mason darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Bentner has a takedown stuffed.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bentner throws a body punch but Mason moves out of range.
Bentner blocks a head kick by Mason.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Zane Mason will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Bentner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Mason connects with a leg kick. Bentner looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Bentner closes the distance and clinches up with Mason, looking for a takedown. Bentner pushes Mason against the cage but Mason circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mason lunges at Bentner with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Bentner's hand.

Mason pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Bentner back to the cage. Mason follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Zane Mason comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Mason winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
