PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Paul Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Krabis Kropelis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kelly comes to the cage accompanied by London Calling. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Krabis Kropelis!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelly throws a one two combo.


It looks like Krabis Kropelis has been cut.
Kropelis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kelly defends well and Kropelis ends up having to push Kelly into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kelly stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kelly wants it to stay on the feet.
Kropelis looks to land a combination. Kelly sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Kropelis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kelly definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Paul Kelly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Krabis Kropelis.
Kropelis throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A lazy left from Kelly finds it's target.
Nice defenses there by Kelly.

Kelly tries to circle away but Kropelis has him pinned against the cage.
Kelly is working for takedown but Kropelis is calmly controlling the position for now.

Kropelis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kropelis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kelly just stands there and leans against the cage.

Kelly manages to pull guard.
Kropelis pushes down on Kelly's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kelly knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kropelis on the ground.
Kelly is staying active underneath Kropelis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kropelis lands strikes from half guard.
Kropelis works his foot free and advances to mount.
Kropelis with shots to the head and body - Kelly looks very uncomfortable down there.

Kropelis is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Kelly throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kropelis shoots in for a takedown but Kelly shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kropelis takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Kropelis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kelly pinned against the cage. Kelly gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A quick step to the side and Kelly tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kelly tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kropelis is able to avoid easily.
Kropelis is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Kropelis misses with a takedown attempt
and Kelly counters with a series of strikes. Kropelis will be more careful next time no doubt.
Kelly leaves Kropelis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kropelis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kropelis shoots in for a double leg but Kelly sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kropelis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kelly circles away.
Kelly is looking to counter the offense by Kropelis and move into the clinch.
Kelly throws a sloppy head kick and Kropelis moves out of range easily.

Kropelis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kropelis tries to pull guard but Kelly forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Kropelis is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kelly to keep the fight standing.
Kropelis jumps guard but Kelly stands there with Kropelis around his waist. Kropelis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Kropelis tries to free his leg and advance position but Kelly is retaining full guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kropelis working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Kelly avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Kropelis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kropelis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kelly's waist but Kelly gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kropelis off to one side.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kropelis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kelly manages to avoid it.
Kelly cracks Kropelis with a good jab.
Paul Kelly is winning the standup battle so far.
Kelly looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kelly misses with a wild combination.
Kropelis tries to counter with a clinch but Kelly shakes him off and moves away.
Kropelis shoots in looking for a takedown. Kelly tries to sprawl out of it but Kropelis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kelly manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kropelis misses with a takedown attempt - Kelly sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Paul Kelly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Krabis Kropelis.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kropelis creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kelly sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kropelis is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Kelly is trying to escape and Kropelis transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Kelly is forced to tap! Nice work there by Kropelis! Very nice indeed!

Krabis Kropelis bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
