Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tom Hewitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Gagnon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tom Hewitt has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tom Hewitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Gagnon!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gagnon rushes Hewitt and presses him up against the cage.

Gagnon is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hewitt can't fight it off and eventually Gagnon manages to take the fight to the floor. Hewitt looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gagnon wants to control from the top but Hewitt keeps moving.

Hewitt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gagnon pushes down on Hewitt's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Gagnon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Hewitt blocking the ground and pound attempt from Gagnon.

Gagnon seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Hewitt is trying to maintain the position but Gagnon is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gagnon slows the pace down in half guard.

Hewitt kicks off Gagnon and gets to his feet.

Gagnon manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hewitt on his heels. He'll look to pass Hewitt's guard now, I'm sure.

Hewitt looking for a guillotine here but Gagnon defends easily.

Hewitt has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gagnon off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Gagnon has managed to clinch.
Gagnon lands with a short shot to the head.
Hewitt with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Gagnon wants to break the clinch but can't.
Gagnon pushes Hewitt back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Hewitt misses with an elbow over the top.
Gagnon wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hewitt pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Gagnon drives through with a takedown into Hewitt's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Hewitt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Gagnon tries to free his leg and advance position but Hewitt is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hewitt looking for subs off his back but Gagnon has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Gagnon drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hewitt has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Gagnon has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Gagnon works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Gagnon wants to control from the top but Hewitt keeps moving.
Gagnon postures up in Hewitt's guard and throws a big left but Hewitt blocks it.
Gagnon is fighting to break Hewitt's control of his arms but Hewitt is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Hewitt keeping moving, preventing Gagnon from controlling successfully.

Hewitt is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gagnon is aware though and is defending well.
Hewitt working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gagnon.

Hewitt has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Gagnon has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Gagnon has hold of one of Hewitt's legs. Hewitt is fighting the takedown attempt but Gagnon gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Gagnon stands up from Hewitt's guard - Gagnon perhaps looking for a knockout.
Gagnon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Gagnon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hewitt throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gagnon uses it to pass to side control.

Gagnon throws a strike aimed at the side of Hewitt's head but Hewitt avoids it well.
Gagnon throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gagnon decides to stand back up. Gagnon steps back and let's Hewitt get back to his feet.
Robert Gagnon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gagnon moves into the clinch.

Gagnon has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Hewitt clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Gagnon is breathing heavily.
I really don't envy Hewitt right now.
Hewitt is working hard here to advance position.
Hewitt just trying to survive but Gagnon is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Hewitt is trying to stand back up.

Gagnon working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Hewitt trying to control the hands but Gagnon won't let him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gagnon has good solid back control here.
Gagnon trying to control momentarily.
Hewitt trying to get back to his feet but Gagnon is in full control for now.
Robert Gagnon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gagnon tries to keep control of the position but Hewitt is staying busy.

Robert Gagnon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gagnon has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hewitt uses from the top position.
Hewitt makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gagnon looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Gagnon working for a triangle but Hewitt defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gagnon has momentary wrist control but Hewitt slips an elbow through the middle.

Gagnon is striking from the bottom but Hewitt uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Hewitt is thwarting Gagnon's attempts to control the position.
Gagnon slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gagnon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hewitt landing with the ground and pound.
Gagnon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hewitt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Gagnon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gagnon lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Hewitt is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gagnon defends well.

Gagnon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hewitt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gagnon throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hewitt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hewitt is trying to keep Gagnon in close.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hewitt wants to improve his position but Gagnon is controlling well.
Well, if Gagnon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Robert Gagnon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gagnon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
